As I wrote to Qu - don't worry about the words in Genesis, just make them mean anything you want.
Right now you've got Genesis as some bizarre metaphor for the Big Bang, and later you'll change it to M-theory. You guys will write something like "when God separated the heavens from earth, he was talking about how gravity separated out from the other forces."
No I won't.

Cuz the Big Bang theory is bullshit.

And poorly named.

1. It's hard to read what constitutes humor through short posts, especially those lacking indicators such as :) or ;) or ;p etc.
2. Feminism literally means "believing that men and women are morally, cognitively and emotionally equal, with equal rights to enjoy life, etc., and equal but differing life experiences" It does not mean "put men down whenever they can, because men are so f*ckingstupid that I have to explain what feminism means."
:)
;p
:)
(see? it works, huh?)
So, if you're not a feminist, you're living in the past and not really someone worth interacting with.
Oh NO!
I think that means I'm one o' them feminist fellas.

So I won that one :)

We do have Ideas... Skom. ;)
Think how terrible the USA would be if WE...

1. Eradicate the Bush tax cuts for the rich and institute new taxes on the wealthiest Americans and on corporations, including a tax on all trading on Wall Street (where they currently pay 0%).

2. Assess a penalty tax on any corporation that moves American jobs to other countries when that company is already making profits in America. Our jobs are the most important national treasure and they cannot be removed from the country simply because someone wants to make more money.

3. Require that all Americans pay the same Social Security tax on all of their earnings (normally, the middle class pays about 6% of their income to Social Security; someone making $1 million a year pays about 0.6%(or 90% less than the average person). This law would simply make the rich pay what everyone else pays.

4. Reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act, placing serious regulations on how business is conducted by Wall Street and the banks.

5. Investigate the Crash of 2008, and bring to justice those who committed any crimes.

6. Reorder our nation's spending priorities (including the ending of all foreign wars and their cost of over $2 billion a week). This will re-open libraries, reinstate band and art and civics classes in our schools, fix our roads and bridges and infrastructure, wire the entire country for 21st century internet, and support scientific research that improves our lives.

7. Join the rest of the free world and create a single-payer, free and universal health care system that covers all Americans all of the time.

8. Immediately reduce carbon emissions that are destroying the planet and discover ways to live without the oil that will be depleted and gone by the end of this century.

9. Require corporations with more than 10,000 employees to restructure their board of directors so that 50% of its members are elected by the company’s workers. We can never have a real democracy as long as most people have no say in what happens at the place they spend most of their time: their job.(For any U.S. businesspeople freaking out at this idea because you think workers can't run a successful company: Germany has a law like this and it has helped to make Germany the world’s leading manufacturing exporter.)

10. We, the people, must pass three constitutional amendments that will go a long way toward fixing the core problems we now have. These include:

a) A constitutional amendment that fixes our broken electoral system by 1) completely removing campaign contributions from the political process; 2) requiring all elections to be publicly financed; 3) moving election day to the weekend to increase voter turnout; 4) making all Americans registered voters at the moment of their birth; 5) banning computerized voting and requiring that all elections take place on paper ballots.

b) A constitutional amendment declaring that corporations are not people and do not have the constitutional rights of citizens. This amendment should also state that the interests of the general public and society must always come before the interests of corporations.

c) A constitutional amendment that will act as a "second bill of rights" as proposed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt: that every American has a human right to employment, to health care, to a free and full education, to breathe clean air, drink clean water and eat safe food, and to be cared for with dignity and respect in their old age.

I said that some of the laws of the OT were specific laws for a specific people.

You atheists get too stuck on "but, but, but... It's in the Bible!!" and never give yourselves a chance to learn anything.

"Even if you do change their mind, they're never gonna admit to you that you did. So don't ever make that the test of whether or not you're right or whether or not you're persuasive or whether or not you're winning an argument. Most of these people are closed-minded, emotionally driven, non-thinking people. You're not gonna get to 'em with logic. You're not gonna get to them with fact. They live in a world they have constructed so that they don't have to face the facts. They can instead immerse themselves in this cocoon of emotion that makes 'em feel good. Yeah, and the word used within Hebrew, was closer in meaning to "and even also".
Meaning - additions - to that initial statement in Genesis.
I don't write it. The ancient Hebrews did. It's their book. I just look it up in BibleWorks http://www.bibleworks.com/ (that's a handy software to have, btw) and look at the various translations and word meanings in the original texts.
What I pointed out is accurate according to the original texts.
Thanks for the info... please bear in mind that though a hebrew interlinear may claim to be a exact translation from the original ancient Hebrew... please note for future use that there are different versions of ancient Hebrew interlinears.

Much like different versions of the bible as you would know it.

It's kind of like how one can't always "fully" trust a biblical commentary. Because a person will sometimes write a commentary based on their own cultural and denominational experiences. The same can be said for Jewish person and interlinears.

Sometimes different versions of anything is a way to keep the money flowing. <--- probaly the dark side of translations when it comes to profit margins.

Nonetheless, though the motives aren't perfectly pure due to business interests... yet, it gives more ways of understanding a text.

Genesis 1 is a single run-on sentence.
I agree, when you look at the wording in the original text(S)- Aramaic, Greek etc..- that is what it reads as.

In the Septuagint and Targumim are pretty clear in this.

The "and" usage in English translations are a convention used because it has been translated to English.

Also, earlier, when you were discussing the term 'void", this is what the original texts actually used.

<formless and void>

Or, "formless > and even also < void.

The original word "formless"(minus the font which will not show here) and meaning:

(tohu)(1062c)
Meaning: formlessness, confusion, unreality, emptiness
Origin: from an unused word
Usage: chaos(1), confusion(1), desolation(1), emptiness(1), empty space(1), formless(2), futile(2), futile things(1), meaningless(2), meaningless arguments(m)(1), nothing(2), waste(3), waste place(2).

Void(minus font etc..) and meaning:
bohu (96a)
Meaning: emptiness
Origin: from an unused word
Usage: emptiness(1), void(2).

Notes:
1 )Or a waste and emptiness
2 )Lit face of
3 )Or hovering

I think the most fascinating thing here is that Christians assume the stance that when this information is supplied that in some way it's being made up or fabricated by atheists and others, since it doesn't mesh with what they believe.

It isn't being made up, and it isn't what they want to believe.

That's what the original texts say.

I'm not telling you something you don't already know, I felt it needed a bit more discussion.

Sorry, I have to disagree. Those "social constructs" are due, in part, by God's influence on people. Whether you believe in a god or not, gods DO have influence over people's thoughts and actions.
<quoted text>
No, you are correct. I have felt God's presence and I have heard His voice.
In my mind, it is unmistakable.
<quoted text>
Some are. Some Christians are some moral, people like you would say it's interfering with their 'natural' life.
Are all Christians more moral than non-Christians? Absolutely not. It's all about self.
<quoted text>
"In contact" is so wrong. I've heard His voice ONE time.
Apply that to people. Say you contacted a long lost relative 12 years ago, and that 'contact' was a two-word converstation. Would you consider yourself "in contact" with that relative?
<quoted text>
That is, of course, possible.
For now, that is something you can't provide any evidence for, your encultered, non-god mind, tells you it's just a misinterpretation.
<quoted text>
As far as the morality of "good and evil" goes, I agree with you. Most Christians are exactly like most atheists in that they don't inflict harm on others, regardless of sex, race, religion, non-religion, nationality or otherwise.
Check your "morality against your "society's " anytime. If you violate it it will place you into incarceration.
So much for "self" dictation of morality huh?
