I don't know what you're talking about, to be honest. Never watch those shows.
However, the clip and post presented to me blatantly ignored our research into the gene and suggested it was of miraculous or alien origin. That's utterly false. For a TV show to suggest that is borderline fraud.
What TV show ? You remarked about the Discovery Channel and that is what I addressed.

It certainly enables normal speech and mutations in it prevent normal speech in humans - but only in highly specific ways. In other words, it's not the only gene contributing to human language. It's one of many.

"Thou shalt not suuffer a witch to live."
I'll break that down for you, just in case.
"Thou shalt not" is a command. An order. A Commandment.
"suffer" mans "allow".
So, here's the Commandment: "Do not alllow a witch to live".
How does that NOT mean "kill 'em all"?
It's from Exodus 22.

They call is "Social Responsibilities"

Here's the rest of the so-called "Social Responsibilities".

You tell me that the witch-killers really follwed them all.

If you can demonstrate that, if ANY OF YOU CAN. Then I'll concede.

If you can't, well....

16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife. 17 If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.

18 “Do not allow a sorceress to live. <<<<----------

19 “Anyone who has sexual relations with an animal is to be put to death.

20 “Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the Lord must be destroyed.[e]

21 “Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.

22 “Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless. 23 If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry. 24 My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless.

25 “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest. 26 If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset, 27 because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.

28 “Do not blaspheme God[f] or curse the ruler of your people.

29 “Do not hold back offerings from your granaries or your vats.[g]

“You must give me the firstborn of your sons. 30 Do the same with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day.

31 “You are to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of an animal torn by wild beasts; throw it to the dogs.

---

Look at 19. Do you really think the backwoods hicks in America a few hundred years ago didn't fuck their sheep?

No thanks. I have better ethics than Jesus already. For example, I don't condone slavery.
Can you name any original moral concept from the mouth of Jesus worth adopting? The only worthwhile moral advice Jesus gave was said by others first, and the only moral advice said first by Jesus is bad advice.
Can you contradict that statement and support your claim? This is the fourth time I've asked this question, and not a single Christian has offered a rebuttal.
So you think yourself better. Better eithics than Jesus. No you are not better than Jesus. You have not taken that walk to the cross and death yet. You only express the love of self. JMO

Wait a minute let me stop laughing....
You're using Christopher Hitchens as your source for anything close to the "real truth"?
Hang on I'm almost done laughing....
Christopher Hitchens, the most twisted atheist to ever live?
Just a second, almost done laughing....
He's your source for the "real truth"?
Wow, you are out there Skippy.
_______
You should take your ideas of the "real truth" on the road. I'm sure there's a traveling carnival out there just looking for a freak show like you to entertain the masses.
Too funny!!!
That's a great rebuttal - you laughing like a circus pinhead:

What you object to about Hitchens is that he spoke harshly against your church. He was right.

Well, that's my whole point, IANS. That those scriptures are not meant as laws for Christians but are telling of of the laws and the covenant with God of the ancient Israelites.....
And the texts in the New Testament are telling of of the laws and the covenant with God of the ancient Romans and Greeks.

So ignore the whole worthless book.

They are part of your Bible, yes?
But they're something for you to ignore? Is that what you mean? Your deity didn't really mean those words for all who believe in it?
That's totally cool. I'm just clarifying.
You know else is pretty cool?

Joshua 7:2 says "Go up and spy out the land.", so I guess we have to go spy...

And Ruth 3:14 is GAWD's command on what to do with a cloak; "Bring the cloak you are wearing and hold it out"

And Amos 8:4 "tells" us what to do with the needy... "trample on the needy"

And Lamentations 4:4 "tells" us how babes drink... "The tongue of the infant sticks to the roof of its mouth for thirst".

Are you getting my point?

Not all Scripture is meant to read as a rule for all, most of it is just a story about those people and the rules they had then.

In NO WAY does any of the above apply as any kind of rule, even though it's written in the Bible.

I think "written in the Bible" has the wong meaning to most of you.

The people who lived in what we call "Italy" weren't Italian. They were Roman.
Do you not understand that contemporary nations are relatively recent inventions? All countries are imagined realities. They're not naturally real - we make them real through the social.
Italy did not exist when the Colosseum was built. The land itself did, and that was part of the Roman Empire.
As per your second point, awesome. I'm right there with you. That does away with stupid ideas of creationism.
Ok, so knowing what you just stated, how much of the Bible can be excised from a religious standpoint and not a historical one?
Very good. So now you're starting to understand that the Levite's land, for example, is no longer the Levite's land. And none of their rules or laws apply to ANY Christian, ever.

Geez I wonder what that means.

You're being intellectually dishonest. I never said that.
No you didn't. You did however, say that the bible doesn't 'tell people to kill witches'. I didn't say you said it. Unless you wrote Exodus in which case then I guess I did.
