A secular person within the context you speak of, rejects religion and the "supernatural". That definition is suitable for this conversation. Also, they may very well hold a belief that does not qualify as religious, nor incorporate a "supernatural" component, and still not be atheist, agnostic etc...
A Secular Humanist? For space considerations, go here and read.
Alright then. Why does a secular person fight Christianity so much?
The way I see it, atheists don't believe in gods and secular humanists believe in the betterment of humanity.
Right, so an atheist doesn't believe in gods.An atheist does not have the faith supported theistic belief that gods exist.
Yes, I see that. You'll see there is much more detail and certain specific precepts found in Secular Humanism, not attached to being a secular person, in stance.
It appears that Secular Humanism is sort of a religion (or a doctrine) all it's own.
Whereas a secular person just isn't into religion at all.
Scar says: "Deal with it, RH."Yeah. Explain it, if you can. Demonstrate how it causes you suffering.
Ahh, I see, when you "joke", or comment about a persons ethnicity, sexual preference, body type or shape, derogatory comments towards women, lack of your religious belief, and various other things that I have seen you do...
<RH> "It's a joke or an observation, lighten up, I don't believe in that politically correct stuff, a funny joke is a funny joke, an observation is an observation, it's just an opinion, don't be so uptight ..."
Maybe it's not funny to other people, even if you find it funny, and even more, if you find it funny and then ridicule them for saying something about it. Maybe they are hurt, or suffer.
But, your religious belief, which you say is a choice, not a circumstance of birth or birthplace, is off limits, and...
<RH> "Hey! That's my religious belief you're talking about! Ease up, that hurts. You shouldn't say stuff like that!"
Would it help if I said it was a joke, and then ridiculed you for objecting to the "funny" I just made? Would that ease you hurt or suffering?
Lemme clue you in on something. I'm atheist. I'm used to being derided, cursed, cussed, told I'm no good, worthless, a pariah, and the downfall of humanity.
It used to bother me, but now? I don't care. I know none of those things apply to me. I don't feel persecuted. I don't feel anger. I don't allow those things that people say - who are primarily Christian - to define me, as it is only I that actually defines myself, even though other people - not atheist - try. But that's me.
Mostly, I roll with it.
Maybe you should learn to roll with it, too. Does the prospect of that not seem too desirable? Here's an idea; Just think of it like a "joke".
I'm not a Secular Humanist.
