Sounds like many a bible study for me, too. I grew up going to Pentacostal "full gospel" churches.
Really?

And they didn't teach you how to spell it?

Imagine that.

Go.

Every church is strange.
If you want evidence, do a google image search for "church sign", plus one of the following words: "funny, awful, terrible, mean, stupid".

This looks like one the kids might have been invited to help create.
You know what's even better?

How gullible you are.

Look, I even found a "church" that agrees.....

In essence I guess I have just amplified what you have said HL...
Somewhere between reason and why things are is a fine line. Some make it a bridge to cross and others carry their own fear filled reasons of why they believe they are free if they don't, so fight across it. Either way, all have the thread of a humanity they can't avoid called blood, and anything else becomes the reason we are all as different as our fingerprints.
Spiritually speaking, when we can recognize the uniqueness of one another, it is only then we can realize we are finely tuned enough to share as a group... with respect.
… anything you would like to add ?
Take Care and thanx for sharing.
.. yes, I read it; just had nothing to add. Did you require or desire a response ??..

.. about a month ago, a friend began to express the pain of losing her dog. She began to cry. I wanted to make it better, hold her hand, tell her time would heal the emotional ache. Instead, I offered her a box of Kleenex and returned to my chair across the room and remained silent ..

.. hope you enjoyed my little story ..

I'm a Photoshop geek. I can spot the fakes.

Without going into full scale image analysis, I'd say about 5-10% of the results I saw, with the various search parameters, were fake.

Thanks for posting a link to that site though. That's pretty cool.

My point is that some obscure, unknown internet pictures of supposed church signs that seem odd is not any kind of evidence that all churches are weird.

I googled "church sign stupid", as you suggested. I didn't see any that seemed real.

I've used the church sign generator a few times over the years.

No not from Isaiah but from Matthew as I stated. Found it under what defiles a man.
MAtthew's Jesus is quoting Isaiah. It even says so in Matthew!

"You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’” Matthew 9:7-9

Don;t second guess me LW, I am usually correct.

I am inclined to agree with you.

However, as much compassion as i have for a rabid raccoon, I have more compassion for the other creatures it could harm.
In that respect, with all due remorse, I would quickly dispatch it with a bullet to the brain.

Yes, I do.
But I don't use parables to teach, and if teaching, I use metaphor and hyperbole only to amplify plain expository prose, not as a substitute for it.
I'm all for vague language in art. Song lyrics should be written in such a style.
But I'll bet that if I were a god and made a trip to earth to give my infinitely important and critical message to my creation, one that needed to be understood clearly and obeyed to the letter, I probably wouldn't use vague language.
OK, limericks maybe. And knock-knock jokes.
"Knock-knock"
"Who's there?"
"Jurgen"
"Jurgen who?"
"Yer gonna burn in hell, you sinning piece of crap!"
According to the book, Jesus told his disciples that he had to uses parables to attempt to teach the masses because they were to stupid to understand the plain truth.

Just like most people can understand The Fox and The Grapes story but would get lost in a psychology text about cognitive dissonance.

good point and that is why i don;t believe Jesus was God and even further, it is why i don't believe in anthropomorphic deities.
