I'm perfectly happy and satisfied in not having answers to those question ["why am I here" and "what is my purpose"]. Those questions are irrelevant to me. To clarify, as far as those questions go, I'm fine with knowing that I am here to live, and my purpose is to live, and live, I do. I am fine with that and require no more. That may be difficult for you to understand or assimilate.

The question is not whether "God" exists, but whether your God, as defined in your God-concept exists.
The question to you perhaps and all due respect but society for the most part doesn't care if you question on believe it

90% plus of society believes in a diety. 75% of the U.S. claims Christianity.

The tenets of Christianity under the NT (which is followed today) can be summed up in two general commands

1) Love God and love your neighbor as yourself

2) Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

It is a religion based on love and forgiveness that teaches leave the judging to God

Whether or not everyone follows that or fails to live up to that may be a reflection of human nature or even of individuals but certainly the belief system is not at fault

But figure out of every 100 people, maybe 10 either are agnostic or atheist. Out of those 10 maybe half at the absolute most actually has some problem with Christianity. And that is a generous guestimate imo

So by the numbers you are the 1 person out of 20 that has a problem with how the other 19 are going about things and yet by your post it almost sounds as if you feel the 19 are under some obligation to explain or justify something to you. I realize you may want to feel important. The truth is nobody cares whether you accept it or not. I think deep down you know that or Topix wouldn't be your forum for expressing it.

I did not drop anything. You simply do not have the mental capability to understand that God always existed. God was not made, there was no before God. And all things were created into existence by God.

You can't seem to comprehend that. So no make any sense discussing it with you no further.

The idea that God has a plan is philosophically unsound. It would mean God has wants. How can God have wants if he can fulfil any want instantaneously? Than he would not be imperfect. If he is an imperfect being, he can not be God etc.

The only reason God is given a will ans plan is so rulers can make their people believe they have to follow this plan, which means do what he want. Be submissive and make war on his enemies in the name of God.

The Romans were superb politicians. They knew how to manipulate the masses. They had to, it was a slave society in which the rich families owned everything. They needed this psychological tool to keep all these exploited people in check. They will revolt to humans, so let God keep them subdued. Let God tell them they are sheep that must listen to their pastors.

And people like you, still say beeeeeeeeeh
Another fine post from you.

I hope you stick around with us for awhile. I'd like to read what you have to say. I'm adding your idea about the god's plan, and the reference to pastors, to my spiel about Christian ethics a la the Sermon on the Mount being slave mentality ethics.

You probably know the etymology of the word "pastor":

"from Old French pastor, pastur "herdsman, shepherd" (12c.), from Latin pastorem (nominative pastor) "shepherd," from pastus, past participle of pascere "to lead to pasture, set to grazing, cause to eat" http://www.etymonline.com/index.php...

What year did you become a doctor and how old were you?

I noticed you wouldn't answer this last time. Between you lack of knowledge on prescriptions, about addiction, about the Hippocratic oath, your conflicting stories, etc I am beginning to suspect your entire back-story is false.

But certainly no harm is saying what year you became a doctor and how old you were at the time. It doesn't give away any identifying information. But if you are lying you may be concerned about all the stories you have told over the years and whether someone will find a post that shows you have lied. If I am wrong I am sure you will answer

no one can make the case to you or for you that God exist. it's your job to make that case to yourself. So far you have made the case to yourself, that God does not exist. And that is also your job.
[QUOTE who="It aint necessarily so"]<quoted text>
Actually, what I believe is believed as a rational skeptic. All I believe as an atheist is that since none of you has made his case for a god, I don't accept that claim.
<quoted text>
Yeah, that one. That's the claim. Why would I believe that rather than the opposite?
I just don't see how a god, which would be infinitely more complex than any unconscious universe of mostly space, rocks, dust and gas that it could create, could exist undesigned and uncreated. That's simply unbelievable. Telling me that the god is eternal doesn't help. It's parts should have never have come together.
And what keeps your god together? What laws of nature or supernature were in place to keep your god in one piece and functioning? It's too much to ask somebody to believe unless you insist that they don't think or question the claim.
If your beliefs require that, you are welcome to them without me. Faith is an obvious mistake.
I kinda expected this from lacez, but not so much you. I should never overestimate the atheist.

Why would you apply the laws of nature to God??? why would you apply physical laws to an entity that exist outside of those laws??

Lacez is stumbling over that, and now you, and probably many other atheists as well.

As for educating people, I tried my level best my last many years in the States, and even for a time after I left. My Topix posting was mostly political in those days.
Here are several political posts that you might find interesting or helpful. I'd have PM'ed them to you,but you don't have a permanent account. Feel free to use whatever parts of them that you can.
The simple fact is that I don't really want to do that any more. I find it all so dismal and hopeless. I really don't like to revisit these issues much, although I do from time to time, as I am now.
My advice? Either accept the new reality, or move on. I don't think I can help Americans more than I can by saying that.
The American Christian here - mostly Conservatives - are going to hate me even more if they look at this stuff.
I'd be interested in your feedback concerning any of these.

Didn't you just accuse me of being manipulative - trying to recruit assistance? I don't.
But look at you dong whatever you can to prevent it. Your repeated criticism of my use of the word "we" is just that. And here you are doing it again.
Dividing people is what you try to do.
Dividing has nothing to do with it. You want to take criticisms leveled specifically at you for being a bigot and portray them as attacks on unbelievers in general because you are like an internet parasite who can't survive without others. You need to refer to yourself in plural and can't stand on your own two feet. You clearly think your friends are easily manipulated if you think they will believe people pointing out your bigotry is actually trying to stifle any unbeliever from expressing themselves

You realize more and more people are shying away from being associated with you since they follow a higher moral code than you. They may have issues with Christianity but they aren't condemning the morality of millions of people whom they have never met, they aren't saying things like "filthy Christian liar" and they aren't hypocritically talking about the need for tolerence while saying things like "panty-sniffing god"

Someone may out of some misguided sense of loyalty after-the-fact because I wrote this come out and sacrifice their own ethics to pretend as if they support your bigotry. But the silence up to this point has been deafening. Nobody wants a bigot as their spokesperson or speaking for them. And you have exposed yourself as a bigot. And you know it. It is why you now want to pretend people are calling you one falsely out of some plan to ostracize you and attack all unbelievers. Nope. You are being called a bigot because you are a bigot and it has nothing to do with unbelievers in general

Most are only Christian in name only. In the USA most 'christians' don't go to church and never read the bible nor do they even know what they are supposed to believe in as a christian.
Your particular sect/cult is only 3% of the world population, about the same as the percentage of pure atheists.
The number of agnostics on the planet is probably greater than 70% of the population.
That's a good point about Christians in name only.

Jews will often say things, like this chap: "I'm a Jew.. well, I'm a Jew by race, atheist by belief."
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index...

I know many such people. Here's a post on the subject I wrote to Riverside Redneck on another thread, which may interest you:
http://www.topix.com/forum/topstories/TOCO8TE...

I have never heard a Christian speak like that - "I am a Christian atheist" - but there appears to be people like this anyway. As you say, they don't believe in a god, they don't pray, the don't attend church at all, or perhaps just for social reasons, the don't read the bible or consider it wisdom, and they don't believe in sin, salvation, hell or an afterlife.

Yet they will call themselves Christians, and not only deny being atheists, but may be offended at the word.

What I care about is how they think and vote. Will they look down at self-admitted atheists like Christians? Will they hate gays for being gay like Christians, or vote against those gays' interests. Will they vote for people who thump a bible?

If not, these secular Christians are not part of the problem, which is the church.

Yet such people will appear as Christians in polls and surveys, and confound estimates for when the church will lose it sway over the majority and cease influencing policy and societal mores.

Anyway, that is more of what I did to try and help America and Americans. As I told you, there is nothing that can be done for America that can only be done on American soil. I made my contribution both when I was there, and for a while thereafter.

I have yet to see anything like it from you, who remains behind casting aspersions at people like me.

There are a good reasons why I moved on, and you embody one of them: I have no connection to about half of Americans any more. I don't care what becomes of you, and I don't want to live near you or meet you.

I don't want to pay taxes that might benefit people like you, nor patronize businesses that might be owned by people like you, nor rent office space from somebody like you.

It's really very much life a divorce. I wanted to move out, and I didn't want to support you or even see you again.

I do care about the other half. But all I have to offer them is what I think is a clearer picture of the reality of modern day America, and a different way to think about such matters. That's what those political posts were all about.

Transcend the Republican-Democrat nonsense, which is a dog and pony show intended to make you think you or elections matter, or that you can effect change. Either adapt to the new reality, which means fewer rights and less opportunity for prosperity, or move on if that is feasible. Why not? America has already abandoned you in favor of the corporations.

Leave that mess - the debt, division, strife, crumbling infrastructure, and uncertainty about the future - to the people that made it if you can ... people like you in all likelihood, judging by your vapid posting. You should be the one servicing the debt, struggling to get by, and sending your children to war for Exxon-Mobil and Halliburton.

None of that has anything to do with spirituality.

Nor do spirit mediums, seances, tarot cards, Ouija boards or crystal balls, or dowsing rods.

As for your bible being filled with the supernatural, so are the Odyssey and Superman comics.

The gross part was being puked up three days later.(where christians stole the three days idea, btw)
I heard that the three days came from ancient astronomy/astrology:

"The ancient Egyptians noticed that on the autumn equinox, the sun does not set farther south and sets in the same place on the horizon for three days. This is an astrological reference to when the sun (Son) goes down for three days (dies) and then begins to rise again (resurrection). Using the crude instruments available, ancient astronomers were able to detect by December 25th of each year that the daytime had become noticeably longer. This date was chosen, and remains, the traditional date for followers of many different religions to celebrate the "rebirth" of the sun."
http://www.near-death.com/experiences/origen1...

"Many of the world's sacrificed godmen have their traditional birthday on December 25 ("Christmas"), for example see Sol Invictus. This represents the ancient recognition that (from a perspective in the northern hemisphere) the sun makes a yearly descent southward until December 21 or 22, the winter solstice, when it stops moving southerly for three days and then starts to move northward again. During this time, people back then believed that "God's sun" had "died" for three days and was "born again" on December 25" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrology_in_the...

The puking thing is good, though.
