The same goes for those who have just 'read' the bible.
How much have you read the bible? How many times have you read the bible, star to finish, for instance?

My religion? I'll say my faith. No, my faith is not a failure.
Do you have a problem with the word "religion"? A lot more Christians seem to these days. It's become a dirty word - something people distance themselves from even when it applies to them.
blind man n the bleachers wrote:
I don't come to the same conclusions you do. To do so would following blindly and being trained.
Then you think that trained thinking is a bad thing? Personal answers are not always good. Your subjective experiences can be personal, but facts about reality aren't.

No single definition is correct. As with so many other biblical concepts, the language of hell theology is vague and contradictory. Whatever your opinion is, there are no scriptures that affirm it unambiguously and without contradiction elsewhere. You have no authority or basis to declare my version less correct than yours.

What don't you like about my read on hell? Are you claiming that hell is not described as a lake of fire and a place of suffering? Are you claiming that the soul is not eternal?

OK. I'm warning you that the road you are on will lead to a wasted opportunity at an authentic life. You should turn. If you reject this advice, blame yourself.

I have no problem saying that torture is wrong.
Are souls tortured in hell?

Why would an omnipotent god torture almost every animal on earth with a flood because man was a disappointment? Why not just the men? Why would a god with the power to change his creations destroy them instead of fix them? And why if he destroyed them would he do it by drowning instead of just poofing them away like he made them?

Picture the terrified animals seeking ever higher ground as the waters rose until they could ascend no further. Then the water rose more, their eyes are bugging out in terror. It gets up to their chins as they crane their necks for precious air. Then the water goes even higher and they inhale water. They choke, sputter and drown in sheer terror.

Did you your god do that?

Maybe you don't, or maybe MisterCarrington doesn't, however, we do know that humans have hands.

Deity claims are made without any proof.

This is getting old. How about a little common sense?
Say you're in the middle of a desert, k? Now look all around you, all you see is sand - in every direction, in all places. K? Look at the horizon.
It's arched, not flat.
A disc. Yeah. That is how ancient man understood it to be.

The bible depicts the "circle of the earth", nowhere does it say disc shaped.

<quoted text> Greeting again Irrira. your post didn't so much escape me as I simply didn't read all of your link, I still don't agree that people are really born into being gay in that manner, and I realize the hardship that they must have had in growing up feeling differently than other children in their gender groups, and didn't understand themselves why they felt so differently than other boys or girls, probably being picked on, ridiculed and persecuted mercilessly, that must have felt like pure hell, many children have gone through such who was not gay in any manner, but for simply being a little different in terms of being shy around others, quiet and not very talkative and not being as athletic as other kids and so not so good at team sports and no one wanted them on their team, they were separated from other kids because no one wanted to be their friend and they became outcasts.
And where some came into the very earliest ages of acquiring that gay spirit, many for the reasons stated above found that the gay groups were the only minority group that would accept them as they were, and so they bought into that lifestyle and sexual regime through being accepted by that group as opposed to being rejected by all others.
Sad and tragic true..........but I still know that God is a deliverer and a healer of all things, and still maintain that he can deliver one from this sin disease for whosoever wants to be delivered.

That most of the stories in the Bible can be read and appreciated like any other ancient stories. Historical fiction, poetry, fables, collection of sayings, love stories, drama, scifi, allegory, morality tales, fantasy, monsters, biographies, children's stories, philosophy, etc. It is a small library, limited and biased as any.
I don't think I missed that.
G_O_D wrote:
Do you dislike all books ?
No. I've enjoyed a few.

But not the bible. It isn't interesting to me at all as literature. I don't know what you are calling sci-fi. The monsters suck. The love stories are pretty weak, too. The fiction is terrible. The moral values are inadequate. There are no quotable sayings there for me.

What is the philosophy? Submit? Believe?

I still don't see what point I'm missing. If the book is what you say it is, it has nothing to offer me. I don't need it for any of that.

The Hebrew words used do depict and refer to a disc.

Christian translations aren't the Hebrew words.

I doubt it could prove any bigotry in any way because the definition of bigotry does not fit with my views.

she called hitler a "christian" which means 'follower of Christ'. therefore if Jesus didn't do or command hitler to do what he did, hitler wasn't following Christ/he really wasn't 'christian'.

goodness gracious, DOG - and you claim to be highly educated?!

Wrong. You need rational thoughts to learn more about the bible.
To learn about how wrong it is?
It doesn't take much to learn that, it's pretty straightforward that when a book advocates murder in so many ways yet claims one of the biggest rules is not to murder it is pretty wrong.
