According to the Quran, the death of Solomon was a lesson to be learned,
Then, when We decreed (Solomon's) death, nothing showed them his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his staff: so when he fell down, the Jinns(demons) saw plainly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have tarried in the humiliating Penalty (of their Task).
—Quran, sura 34 (Saba), ayah 14[18]
When Solomon was to die, he stood up in prayer holding his cane. There he silently died, but, by God's will, did not fall. He remained in this position, and everyone including the jinns thought that he was still alive. Finally God ordered a termite to weaken the cane so that the body of Solomon fell. It was thereafter believed that the jinn (along with all humans) did not know everything and only God had knowledge of all.
Was the lesson "don't drink too much turpentine?"

No?

How about "viagra in the kilograms should be avoided."?

No?

How about "Practice not ye the ways of the mountains for, verily, I say unto thee, those art wicked"?

That's quite obvious isn't it?
Now ask yourself why?
How could anyone want Jesus dead? That's like hoping Socrates perished.

Gosh, I really hope against hope Plato died.

I've always had nightmares about being burned alive, can we perhaps discuss drowning or being shot? Cheers :-)

<quoted text>No not really.
You write this:
[You're getting confused by my calling America a Christian culture. And you're thinking "but, gosh, Christians are in so many cultures!" And you're ignoring the part where I said "yes, Christians are in so many cultures - and, in each, it's a different kind of Christianity."
Hence you have Mayans sacrificing chickens to God, Polynesians with ancestor worship alongside Christianity, and so on]
[[[[
So if you going to put the Mayans, Polynesians and other cultures as some kind of "Christianity" based on they rituals, then why not Islam.
Islam and Christians revere the Old Testament. Islam see Jesus as a Prophet. So you then saying Islam is a form of Christianity? Or Even Buddhism. A lot of the teaching Buddhism inline with what Jesus teach. Love your neighbor, Karma and so forth. Is Buddhism a form of encultured Christianity?
So based on your argument, it would seem like the Whole World is sort of a [Christian Enculturation] would you not say? and if no, why not? by your own argument it seem the whole world is somewhat Christian Encultured.
Maybe you would agree then the Christian God, which go back all the way to Abraham, the father of both Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Maybe all encultured religions start with him.
Because if you want to go so far as to say the Polynesians were practicing a form of Christianity, then Christianity encultured the whole world from the start. or maybe you think Abraham is a mythical person?
The point you trying to make with your original argument is not working. You were wrong from the beginning, and now you just making it up as you go along. You might as well cede the argument to me like your friend wilderide on his nonsensical [free will] argument. because point on enculturation and the Christian religion [AINT] working. Is not that I don't understand it, is because you Wrong.
:)
It's actually b/c you don't understand what I'm writing.

I am asking myself "why, Hiding, are you bothering? He doesn't understand?" And answering "no clue. This is kind of getting annoying. I don't think I can dumb it down further."

No, Mayan Christians are nothing like Muslims. Muslims, for one thing. aren't Christian. That should be your first clue. The second clue is that Mayans don't share anything approaching Indo-European culture. So...as Christians, they sacrifice chickens to God.

No, I don't expect you to understand how they experience God.

No, I am not calling Muslims Christians. I have no idea why you would ask that question. That's quite ridiculous.

No, I never said "Polynesians WERE practicing a form of Christianity." That's patently stupid. I would never claim such an absurdity. Clearly, you are incapable of understanding what I'm writing. Possibly the fault is mine, but I have my doubts.

I said "Christian Polynesians include ancestor worship in their rituals." Where, my good man, is a past tense grammatical point in that sentence? There's no "were" at all. When Polynesians adopted Christianity, they included their past rituals.

In fact, all peoples from non-Christian cultures who adopted Christianity changed Christianity to suit their culture. Because you have difficulties here, I want you to understand that I wrote "peoples" and not "people." The difference is extremely important.

I apologize that English is your second language and that this is difficult for you. I suggest you go slower, double check where you aren't clear on meanings. I'll treat you like a second language learner from now and and try very hard to be more patient.

I'm projecting?
Did you consider how ridiculous that comment is after accusing me of projection. Dude - you're the one who is owned by the church. You're the one giving it your life, your heart, mind and soul. You're the one letting it tell you how to live and think. You're the one giving it thousands of hours of your life praying, studying the bible, and listening to sermons. You're the one giving it thousands of your dollars.
And then you call me the slave to religion, the guy who has walked away from it and now declaims it.
That's a stunning lack of insight for you to post.
IANS....trifecta1 wrote the above. Yes, it's ridiculous, projecting, ironic and absurd, but no, there's nothing stunning about him posting that.

Inanity is quite normal for him.

And there was one named Barabbas which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him who had committed murder in the insurrection.

But go your way tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee:there shall ye see him as he said unto you.

I would refute you claims if your conversation made any sense. When you decide to understand the bible and not hatchet scripture with your ugly interpretations, then I will jump into the conversation. I wonder how Duane hasn't already gotten frustrated with you by now.

By the way, there was no one named Jesus living in 1st century Palestine. Shows how much you know.

You get a do over, by the way.

He never said he was a Messianic Jew, and the bible we have today, especially the NT portion, hardly resembles anything Hebrew as opposed to what it was between 40 and 100 AD.

Trifecta...isn't that what hell is all about...a place that you are sent to burn for eternity???

If one exercises their free will and chooses not to follow Jesus then they are punished for that by being tossed in to a lake of fire.

So yes...if one believes what is written...Jesus/God would burn someone.

Uhm...1st century means 0-99. So...did Jesus die in 0 AD or -1 AD?

I'm honestly a bit confused on this point. Is BCE (Before Christian Era) from before Jesus' birth or death? Or do we have a 30 year blank spot?
