Gospel reading
Mt 20:17-28
As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem,
he took the Twelve disciples aside by themselves,
and said to them on the way,
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem,
and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests
and the scribes,
and they will condemn him to death,
and hand him over to the Gentiles
to be mocked and scourged and crucified,
and he will be raised on the third day.”
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons
and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something.
He said to her,“What do you wish?”
She answered him,
“Command that these two sons of mine sit,
one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom.”
Jesus said in reply,
“You do not know what you are asking.
Can you drink the chalice that I am going to drink?”
They said to him,“We can.”
He replied,
“My chalice you will indeed drink,
but to sit at my right and at my left,
this is not mine to give
but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”
When the ten heard this,
they became indignant at the two brothers.
But Jesus summoned them and said,
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and the great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you.
Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.
Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve
and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Thank you JESUS :)

Good afternoon in Australia! hope all is well with you.
Indeed it is ~ it is nearly 10pm down here, and almost ready to hit the hay. Hope everyone is happy and peaceful and feeling Blessed where ever they are, but sadly, know in my heart that won't be happening. It has been raining down here and the lawns and gardens got a good watering, but last day of Summer tomorrow so sadly, saying goodbye to the heat and hello to the cold LOL. We do need the 4 Seasons though, GOD planned it perfectly :)

Amen...

I had my Angels read many years ago, and have 3 in particular; the one on my right is Asha, with an aura of silvery brilliant purple; the one on my right is Rajah, with an aura of pure sky blue healing energy and the one behind me is Michael, resplendent in emerald green. I still have the recording of my reading and it is one of those moments in one's life where amazing feelings and experiences are experienced.....

Cheers for bringing up the ANGELS, they are often overlooked :)

Today's Prayer

Dear God, today I want to lift up the teenagers of this world. What a burden I have for them. So many are lost and undone. Their lives are a mess. There are so many negatives influences in their lives. Then there are some who are on the right path, serving you and trying to do what is right. I pray for each and every one, that the right person or people or circumstances would come to point them to you and show them your love, life and hope. I pray that you would give them boldness to serve you and courage to stand up for your Word and for what is right. I thank you that you have promised them hope and a future through the precious blood of Jesus. May they come to that knowledge and accept your gift of eternal life. In Jesus' name, amen.

Encouraging Words.....

So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.

The point I am making which was obvious is that the bigotry you are engaging in is basically taking the worst type of sinners there are and then claiming all Christians are equal to that
I don't recall doing that. I am happy to use you as the typical Christian, Dim. You're not the worst one, are you?

Besides, your complaint palls a little in light of the recent discussions on this thread about gays centering on NAMBLA and a man accused of something with child porn - I only read the lede. These were offered as evidence against the character of gays. Being the staunch crusader of justice that you are, you bravely remained mute there.

I'll be looking for you to speak up when Stalin and Pol Pot are wheeled
out next time as poster children for atheism.

You're functionally illiterate. You have no standing to criticize content. You haven't understood anything you've read yet.
It aint necessarily so wrote:
Your people have been marginalizing, demeaning and dehumanizing mine for centuries, Dimwit. I don't recall you calling this bigotry
Skombolis wrote:
You mean SOME people in a group made up of hundreds of millions? Yes SOME people within a group made up of hundreds of millions have been bigoted
Why do you think that is an issue for me? I don't care exactly which of you participated and which just condoned it by sitting by idly. You're like the spokesperson for a nest of termites slated for spraying complaining that not every termite munched. Who cares? Am I expected to sort them out? I just want my house protected.

Likewise with the church. It's of no concern to me who or what is most responsible - beguiling and invidious dogma, predatory clergy, Stepford wife congregants - it's all part of the problem.

You seem to think that I should treat your church as if it had value,or that I should care about it. It doesn't and I don't. I don't care about your church any more than it has ever cared about atheists like me. It has never distinguished between good and bad atheists. We are all bad:

"The fool says in his heart,'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good" - Psalm 14:1

Now you want some kind of consideration for the church that prints billions of copies of that and leaves them in every hotel room? I don't think so. I have no duty to give your church more than it gave people like me. And with conversations like these, I hope to convince others to see the merit of that attitude.

Yep. It's called accountability. You have no grounds to cry bigotry for people objecting to such treatment and wanting it stopped. It's merely correcting a problem. We're removing a parasite, just like spraying for termites.

It's your own fault. You should have policed your church yourselves. Now, it will be done for you.

The two cities Sodom and Gomorrah. The two synonyms for detestable sins. When people hear of Sodom and Gomorrah they think of gays and lesbians. Period. Unless you invent a time machine, travel back and re-write history, this will not change..
That's a perfect illustration of Christian homophobia and its incorporation into Christian teaching, just as the fool scripture I just cited is for Christian atheophobia. The church is the principle source for both in the West. It inculcates these hateful ideas into billions of young minds, ten of of millions in America alone.

Do you think that the affected groups and others that consider such treatment repulsive and unjust have a legitimate complaint and justification for fighting back? I do.

I think that if the bible is taught and read less, people will hate both groups commensurately less. I support that goal enthusiastically, and therefore I support anything that weakens the influence of the church.
