To IANS...

Shrinky dink...you might want to scroll baby scroll...I might get wordy. IANS can comprehend more than one liners. So...

This morning I walked out on the balcony. There was a layer of dark grey clouds in the sky. I then noticed the greyness of the water and the shoreline across the bay.

Then it hit me...nestled in between the two the sunlight was hitting the snow capped mountains...a panorama view that took my breath away. One of those moments that we were discussing.

I know...it can be explained with scientific reasoning.

Was it just a natural occurrence...by chance...maybe. I would prefer though to think that it was there for a reason...as if it was just put there for me. I like to think that it was to remind me of all the beauty and to not just see the grey.

I don't know...I thought of you when I was standing there...thought of your post and how you wrote about those moments.

There's a restaurant that, as far as everybody's concerned, is the only place that they can eat. So, every day, for every meal, snack, and what-have-you, everybody goes to that one restaurant. Then, one day, one person becomes enlightened and tries to share what they've learned with everybody else. Every day, they yell, "You don't have to eat here! You can go to the supermarket yourself, to buy your own food! To cook your own food! To eat your own food!" But, the people have become so set in their ways, they ignore the enlightened one. Then, the owner of the restaurant and all the employees get together and devise a plan, fearing that if just one person listens, that that's money lost. They begin to tell the patrons that all the food outside their establishment is poisoned and that the enlightened one is only trying to get them killed. They tell their patrons that they're the only ones they can trust. They remind the patrons of how long they've been eating there already and how nothing's happened to them. They remind the patrons of the food they've come to love. They offer the patrons free desserts, snacks, and drinks, that's not even on the menu. And they remind the patrons that they donít know how to cook. And the patrons believe them. Some doubt, but because of laziness, they stay. Others doubt, but having little to no self-esteem, they stay, having more doubt in their ability to do for self than to try. And this goes on for years, from one generation to the next.
You see, the fault is our own because the most High's given each and every person the ability to learn His expectations. But, if we refuse what's been given us, then we have nobody else to blame but ourselves. I've seen many people declare, while quoting the bible, too, how we're not to put our trust in men. But, that's the problem. Many of these so-called "Christians" put all their trust in the men that lead our congregations, to the point that we rarely ever question what's being taught, never mind find out, on our own, how all the other denominations are in error.
<quoted text>And I condone such methods. I've been ridiculed many times after publicly admitting that I'm self-taught when it comes to the bible and all else coinciding. I mean, my history in Christendom goes a little something like this.
Birth to, maybe, 11 - Forced to go to "church." Hated "church." Never paid any attention. Knucklehead years begin at 9. Allowed to stop going to "church" at, maybe, age 11.
Age 14 - Started studying bible as an opponent of Christendom. Still a knucklehead.
Age 15 - Astounded at the major differences between Christendom and the teachings of Christ. Still a knucklehead.
Age 16 - Started researching other religions and philosophies. With that, started researching as many denominations of Christendom I could find information on. Still a knucklehead.
Age 23 - After years of being a knucklehead, I smartened up and spent some time studying with the "Hebrew Israelite School/Church of Universal Practical Knowledge." Had to wipe the slate clean of everything I thought I knew of the bible. I left before I got ex-communicated at, I think, age 28, for daring to question a doctrine that was being taught to us, which I should have done a long time before that. Started own congregation with Brothers and Sisters that felt I was treated unjustly. We, once again, were forced to wipe the slate clean and start our studies anew.
Age 30 - Left that congregation to commence being a knucklehead. Still studied, though.
Age 31 - Smartened up again. And of course, I was still studying.
Today - Almost 11 years later and still studying.
Now - Sorry for the long post. Got to go. Need to study.
If I can be blunt with you; in my opinion we are all still "knuckleheads". <smile>

I forgot to tell you, yesterday, I was able to get out of my house. My husband took me grocery shopping at Walmart. I walked it. Getting better and stronger.... Yea! I couldn't go all over the store just the groceries, but I actually got to see people again! I was about to go stir crazy. Raining here, no snow, nor are we expecting any! I wanted to hug the weather man! LOL Thank goodness I am not home bound again! I feel for all those people on the East Coast, the blizzard. The news showed many people still are living in tents....I hope they all are able to find shelter and be warm tonight! Are you not in that area, where they are expecting the blizzard tonight?

I read this and thought you all might like to read it.
*
light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up..

He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.
*
He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally....I assumed you had stolen the car."

Not people. Ideas.
Not people. Ideas..
Ideas cant hurt anybody. People acting upon them can. I understand what you mean as far as going forward you want to change the culture of how we think but why would you ignore the people who make that culture so prevalent today? If you don't want to target people then that makes no sense to me. Just as targeting the entire church would have made no sense to me.

Targeting everybody and targeting nobody are both extremes that do no good. Let's say you have a political pundit who is using faith as political currency and using it in a manipulative, dishonest, inflammatory way because he knows it is a hot-button for people and wants to get their votes by enraging them towards the other side even if built on pure lies? You don't challenge that but instead just say you want to challenge the idea of people who use faith incorrectly for political gain? Of course you should speak out against the individual fanning the hysteria
Tide with Beach wrote:
<quoted text>
There is absolutely no need to target radicals, even if you were targeting people. They are self sustaining billboards for anti-theism.
I am not trying to come off as sarcastic but really? Why do you think certain ideas take root or why damage can be done? It is because there ideas resonate with people, normally people imo who may already be struggling with other things. When you are out of work through no fault of your own it is easy to want to blame someone when you can' feed your kids. So then when suddenly all the world's woes is because of sinners in society and particular ones, people who may have not gone for that before suddenly do. They forget they sin themselves every day. Some radicals are dangerous and they are because they are effective
Tide with Beach wrote:

Well, I target ideas, and I don't care who holds them.
I think that is a huge mistake. You have to try to either reduce someone's voice or get your own out there when someone is doing damage. I have a vested interest in seeing Christianity adhere to the teachings of Christ. Society has a vested interest in having an equal society as far as fundamental rights. Everybody has a stake in it and simply trying to tell the next generation they should really think like this or that does no good with the people with all the power have a bigger microphone. Sure you may change the opinions of a few people but you wanna change a country you gotta target people and on their own platform.

How is IANS...myself...others...being on this thread voicing our opinions any different than Christians being on WINLAC? Many Christians have shown up there...read our beliefs...become angry...start condemning us to hell.
<quoted text>
I disagree with most of this. None of it was the case for me and not the case for many others.
Think about it Knowledge...most of us paid a price for walking away. Most of us came from Christian families. Us leaving put a wedge between us. I lost a dear friend when she found out that I was not Christian. The list goes on as to what we give up when we make that choice.
Also consider...there are many Christians now that do not attend church...many right here on this very thread...yet they still call themselves Christians.
It is not always easy to walk away from what you have known all of your life. Yet it is much easier to do so than to stay in a faith that you no longer believe.
There are too many Christians now that stay in the faith simply because of the pot luck dinner on the grounds. I will not be that type of hypocrite.
So I faced my doubts...I faced disappointing my family...my friends...I went to where my heart took me.
I was referring to the people who have had nothing to happen to them, while in church.

I believe that Jesus will judge our hearts, he knows everything about us, our past, present and future. I have found myself questioning some things, as I watch Christians from a different perspective. I believe that God had a sense of humor.....after all he made me....LOL As I watch people on these topix, I wonder what in the world has happened to people. They are so mean, and hateful, and both Christians and Nonbelievers. Right now, my humor is what gets me up everyday. I believe in God, and nothing has changed about that and my love towards him. But, instead of getting angry at others for their mean and hateful ways, I think I will just deal with them with humor. Life is too short to be mean and angry, and doing it in the name of Jesus. Since I slipped on the ice, and have had to mend, my only outlet to others has been the net, with some visitors and family...I have watched strangers just eat at each others hearts without a thought....of hurting anyone. Maybe my slipping on the ice was a part of God's plan, he needed to give me a cup of humor and humiliation, to finish the recipe......me. ;)

It takes an unbelievable amount of time spent on Topix just to begin with! One could probably go deeper as to why someone would spend so much time in a room they harbor such animosity towards. But if they want to be that big of a pain they can pay for their own shrink! LOL
