Today's Prayer

Oh God, most gracious heavenly Father, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain (to You, my loved ones, my church family, to those who stand in need of your love, mercy, and salvation--or to myself). May You be glorified, Oh lovely and loving One. Thank You in Jesus' name, amen.

Encouraging Words....

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time - to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.

Well done! There is no good reason to deny any of the people that love one another the way our parents did the same protections of marriage that were/are afforded to them.

I really, really dislike that aspect of Christianity: the scapegoating, marginalizing and dehumanizing of people that it enjoys inflicting irrationally and arbitrarily on certain target groups, especially on gays and atheists. The reason given is that Jesus doesn't approve.

I agree. It sounds like you are aware of how guilty the church is of just that - or would you disagree?

You're preaching to the choir, sister

Thanks, but I don't mind. I understand. Although I think that my message is just and proper, I also realize that it is an affront to believers. I wish that I didn't have to do one to do the other, but I don't see where I have a choice if I want to make my case.

That depends what you do. If you are an attorney or a psychologist, that's fine. If you are a seamstress or paid assassin, not so much.[Joking!]

"Coming from five generations of Ku Klux Klan members, 58-year-old "Ms. Ruth" sews hoods and robes for Klan members seven days a week, blessing each one when it's done. A red satin outfit for an Exalted Cyclops, the head of a local chapter, costs about $140."

I remember as a little girl growing up in New Orleans listening to the music of Robert Schumann, I myself like all people have preferences but when a preference clouds the mind and dulls reason it becomes a dogmatic judgement. In regards to Jazz I like Sidney Bechet, he is a fellow Creole like me but grew up in the Seventh Ward whereas I grew up in the Garden District. Sidney Bechet's instruments are the clarinet and soprano saxophone.
Interesting. I have fond memories of New Orleans. I understand that it's only outsiders that call it N'awlins, so I won't.

I am a minor fan of jazz as well. You might like this recent post, which probably should have included Bechet :

I was dressed like a lawyer(suit). It didn't look to good fer class, an I got my azz beat when I got home besides. 2nd day- 2nd suit- same result. Wanted back ta the woods! Real bad. Hey BT 42.....It had to have been bad because your parents dressed you in a suit. I think you said you were from the baby boomers age and most boys dressed like "Beaver". Striped shirt...dungerees folded up...and black and white basketball canvas shoes. Glad you had your animal refuge....Did you live in the Carolinas?

No. I moved to Ohio. Flatlands....
I was raised back east in the hills though mostly. Yup. It was the clothes that was the trigger. My mom wouldn't have it any other way.

Gotta go...

the Bible lets us know that God uses his mouth pieces ( and the Holy Ghost is the only true preacher, right?) according to their seperate abilities, I'm glad that you acknowledged that they did not contradict one another because so long as there is only ONE spirit that gives the message.
This is an interesting subject. Blessings.
Where does your bible let you know that?

And I guess that you don't see any problem there, do you? You say that there is one preacher, then immediately follow it by telling us that each "mouth piece" leaves something of himself behind. You've described multiple contributors there.

And they do contradict one another. I just addressed this at http://www.topix.com/forum/topstories/T0N0LOR... , where Luke contradicts John, and Paul contradicts Jesus.

What an outsider sees is that you believe what you want to believe, and disregard whatever contradicts it. That's fine for you, but you can't sell such thinking to somebody that loves reason.

Many, many, MANY people have paid that price.

Nobody killed Him. He willingly offered Himself in our place.
The why did he have to be arrested and tried? He could have had one of his apostles just nail him to a cross. It certainly would have made the claim that his death was a willing sacrifice more believable.

Incidentally, his crucifixion would have been one way for the Jews to realize that Jesus was not the messiah of the Old Testament, who it was prophesied would be triumphant on earth.

Hello Happy Lesbo, This may come as a shocker but you are correct. Religion never set people free but in my belief, Jesus set us free from the shame and quilt that religion has brought us and still tries to bring us. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Thanks for replying and I hope you have a great day. Nice meeting you as well.
Dear Grace:

Is it OK if I use an informal approach when addressing you? If not, would you prefer Ms., Miss or Mrs. Walker ??..

How did Jesus set us free from the shame and guilt religion created ??..

Fondly, HL
