All that sounds good but what do you about today's retirees? If you're taking the money currently coming into SS and put into personal retirement accounts, how do do you pay for today's retirees??
Bill the Federal Goverment after all how many years have they been taking the surplus. Let me point out that from when first passed Aug 15 1935 until this year until 2010. Let me also make the point until Johnson passed Social Secutity reform act in 1965 Stopped Keeping Funs seperate. The trouble with this is one would be wanting the goverment to keep their promise. As I like to point out by not doing this we are rewarding them for a Ponzi Scheme

And as for the tax cuts to the top 2-3%, just how many jobs have they created?
Scott, I have never worked for a poor man. So how many jobs are they creating? My guess ALL of them
So you think all the jobs created in this country are done so by those who are rich. I'm guessing there are a lot off small business owners that would argue with you on that one.

As I asked you earlier, what do you do with today's retirees? After you no longer using the SS tax deductions to pay today's retirees because you are now putting that money into personal savings accounts, what do you do with today's retirees, tell them their sorry but you're now on you're own. You say bill the Federal Government, where they gonna get the money from? They gonna raise taxes??

I must not have made it clear. For today's retirees the Goverment should pay. Raise taxes or cut services why should they {elected officals} be rewarded for raiding the social security funds. Remember with reforms in I belive 1939 Surplus in Social Security was invested in Goverment Bonds. In 1965 Johnson took funds made all part of General Budget {NO SEPERATE FUNDS NO DRAWING INTREST}. I Know it is a radical idea have Goverment keep its promise.

time for the republicans to make things happen again. The Dems had their chance and look where we are? If Obama was doing such a bang up job of things would have started to improve by now.

Here's an idea, take the monies used to guarantee are politicians pensions and use it to keep the promise of SS. Many in the private sector no longer have pensions and many don't even have their 401K's anymore. So why should they heave guaranteed pensions?

You hit a nerve "POLITICIANS PENSIONS" First should not get paid enough to live on. Should be a HONOR to serve and if have not been a sucess so you can support youself come back when you have. should have term limits and total time in goverment should also have time limit.

I totally agree. At least here in Vermont our Reps are paid a minimal salary plus per deim, while in session, no benefits, no retirement. Now as to how much they may make from special interest, well that is a whole total different subject.

While thinking about this I do believe that the no guaranteed pensions should also go for anyone working in the public sector. Just because you work for the government, Federal, State it shouldn't matter.

Now the only way I see to get the special interest monies out of politics is to have public funded elections and each party has the same amount to spend but it has restrictions on how it gets spent. For example, any add on TV, radio or print should mostly be about the candidate and why one should vote for him/her.

<Well hang on to your hat> States are going broke, look at California. I saw on news City of Los Angles was 12% of budget and going up every year for Pension's. Federal had Social Security short fall of 25 Billion this year. Any way you look at it should be fun to watch.

Hawkeye and I are making a final run thru the forums/posts gathering the last of the best examples of the mind set of Vermont. Yours being the cream of the crop. When I saw this post, I just could not resist asking you one last question. Now that your Schumlin (Mr.$10M in assets) is Governor and you have won ,how do you feel about his Janus act on Vermont Yankee?
Good bye, thanks for the great material, you will make S. Londonderry look really good and do her proud-job well done!

Thank you.
