Obama-backed Gun Control Bill Unlikely to Pass
Friday, 12 Apr 2013 09:08 AM
President Barack Obama’s bid to enact even a scaled-back version of his gun-safety agenda needs support from many of the 16 Senate Republicans who showed they’re at least willing to debate it.
He also must hold onto almost all of the 52 Democrats and independents who joined yesterday’s 68-31 vote to advance the measure for debate.
The White House already may be losing Democratic Senator Max Baucus, who voted yes for debate though said in an interview later that he has trouble with the legislation.
“I oppose the bill, I just cannot support it,” said Baucus of Montana, who faces re-election in 2014.“I’m just not going to block debate on it.”
LOL, even Democrats are dragging their feet and backing out.

Boehner Warned Not to Break ‘Hastert Rule’ on New Gun Measures
Although the Senate just jumped a procedural hurdle, clearing the way for a fresh debate on gun control, two hard-right conservatives in the House of Representatives have worked in the past week to collect signatures on a letter to House Speaker John Boehner discouraging him from bringing any new gun measures to the floor without support from a majority of the House Republican Conference.
The effort is being led by Reps. Paul Broun, a Senate hopeful gunning for Georgia’s open seat, and Steve Stockman, a Texas Republican who gained notoriety earlier this year for inviting rocker/2nd Amendment-defender Ted Nugent to the State of the Union.
“We are writing to express our strong opposition to legislation requiring private sale background checks for firearms purchases,” the letter reads.“Under the precedents and traditions of the House, we would ask that no gun legislation be brought to the floor of the House unless it has the support of a majority of our caucus.”
That majority within the majority is also known around the Capitol as the Hastert Rule, after former GOP Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois.
Boehner has broken it on key votes this year, testing his speakership, such as votes on the Fiscal Cliff agreement, Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, and emergency relief for victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Boehner has long-maintained that he aspires to be the Speaker of the Whole House of Representatives, not just House Republicans, although it’s a tricky high-wire act to execute and one more slip could cost Boehner his perch atop the party.
The speaker today emphasized that he does not feel beholden to the informal rule.
“It was never a rule to begin with,” he said.“Certainly my prerogative or my intention is to always pass bills with strong Republican support.”
Although Boehner has recently come under fire for violating the unspoken rule five times over the past three years, Nancy Pelosi broke it on seven pieces of legislation during her tenure as speaker, while Hastert did so 12 times and Newt Gingrich needed minority majorities on six measures.
Boehner reiterated Wednesday that he will wait for the Senate to pass a gun measure before the House reviews it or potentially acts on it. In the meantime, he says, House committees will continue reviewing the issue as well.
A spokesman for Rep. Stockman says more than 45 Republicans have signed the letter, although it’s doubtful a “Hastert majority” of the House GOP will endorse it.
“The so-called ‘universal background check’ would be a violation of a constitutionally-guaranteed right on an unprecedented scale,” Broun and Stockman write in a letter seeking signatures.“The [National Rifle Association],[Gun Owners of America] and other gun groups have made available a substantial amount of research on the dangers of universal background checks, which we would be happy to pass along.”
A full copy of the letter is posted here.

In a new book, Mitch McConnel dorm roommate says McConnel offered him "handjobs" for help with a math course he (McConnel) was having difficulty with at the University of Louisville, in 1963.
"He passed the course.", the roommate said.

Progress Kentucky: Is the liberal super PAC a GOP plant? The comically inept Democratic group is possibly the best thing that's ever happened to Sen. Mitch McConnell
Shawn[Sean] Reilly files for Shaughnessy’s state Senate seat
29-year old anti-tolling activist Shawn Reilly filed his letter of intent this morning to run for state Senate in the 19th District. Last month, 23-year state Senator Tim Shaughnessy (D-Louisville) unexpectedly announced that he will not seek another term.

Repukes going to charm school: PRICELESS!!!
Republicans bring in media specialists to teach them how to speak to women and minorities
If you're curious about areas where Republicans believe they still need improvement, look no further than the schedule for this week's Republican National Committee spring meeting, where party activists will spend an entire afternoon learning how to engage minority and female voters.
The party's top activists planned to spend much of Thursday in strategy meetings aimed at best practices for packaging and presenting their conservative ideas to young people, women, and black, Hispanic, and Asian constituencies. The training is part of the party's new outreach effort to types of voters who overwhelmingly have supported Democrats in recent elections.
The names of the workshops include:
- "Republican Messaging: How to say what we mean and show that we care"
- "Growing the Party: Working with Minority," led by Micah Grant, an "African American media specialist;" Susie Wong, an "ethnic minority media specialist;" and "Chiqui Cartagena, vice president of corporate marketing for Univision."
- "Recruiting the Next American Generation"
- "Taking the Message to New Places"
- "Winning the Women's Vote"
After the sessions, conference attendees will take a tour of Fox studios in Los Angeles, where they will listen to a keynote address from Allen West, a black Republican former lawmaker from Florida who recently launched an organization to recruit minority candidates for office.
After last year's national election, in which Democrats retained control of the White House and bolstered their numbers in Congress, prominent Republicans called for the party to make engaging female and minority voters a priority as part of a new "growth and opportunity" strategy.
On Wednesday, Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul delivered an address to students at Howard University in Washington, D.C., a historically black college. Last month, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus met with black community leaders at the Christian Cultural Center in East Brooklyn.

...pulling a loony A loser trick...other people's comments. LMAO@Lemming repuke tools!
OK. Now I have heard it all. They are sending Republicans to charm school.
Will Herman Cain be giving the seminar
on "Connecting With American Women"
Republicans hire media specialist to teach them how to talk to women and minorities. That is code for: how to lie to and manipulate others without actually changing your mind.
Fixated fools who are incapable of breaking free of their dogma. It boggles the mind how they can't seem to understand their own hypocrisy.
Leopard cannot change his Spots.
Training Wall street kissups and Rednecks at the same time. What a challenge.
Oh this is too funny. They have to "learn" how to talk to females and minorities? I don't think they're capable of learning.
Notice the black guy there next to Rinse Pubis?.. "Hey, blacks, here!.. Look, we got us another nice black guy to represent you!" ...
Feel like vomiting ... And I'm white.
Hey. GOP contact Allen West:
Allen West's speech on women neutering men is just a fabulous way to rebrand your party and get more women on board.
Wow.......It is like trying to explain quantum physics to a rock.........Not only are they dumb, they don't understand what all the fuss is about........
...just some of the best comments on the first page...A Lunatic gave me the idea. hahaha
Women and minorities won't forget that easily, although the GOP try as they might.
Grand rand stuck his foot in his mouth on his attempt. Too funny. No one is buying what he is trying to sell:
Why Rand Paul flopped at Howard
DITCH MITCH and the party of no/teabaggers!!

Progress Kentucky official resigns
Conway told Fox News he came forward to clear the names of the state and national Democratic parties.
“As a party official, I thought it would — You know, the McConnell campaign is going to try to tie the Democratic Party here, locally, and on the state level and nationally, and they already have, to Progress Kentucky,” he said.“The only reason I came forward with what I knew was to protect the Democratic party.”

Not much but a few million dollars difference in a left wing PAC and a Rove Super Pac for the frightwingers, now is there. haha
Progress Kentucky: Worst super PAC ever?
Even before the last two scandals, Kentucky liberals called the group an "embarrassment"
Liberal super PAC Progress Kentucky is at the center of controversy after a Democratic strategist in the state said activists affiliated with the group bragged to him that they secretly recorded the audiotape of Mitch McConnell’s strategy meeting that was leaked to Mother Jones this week. If true, they could face criminal sanctions. The treasurer of the super PAC resigned this afternoon.
“Kentucky Democrats have never taken Progress Kentucky seriously. If you can’t raise more than $1,000 to defeat the most unpopular Senator in the country, you are not a remotely serious political organization,” a Kentucky Democratic operative told me today.
Big news for a little wannabe PAC huh? Beat it to death and send yourself a suspicious package to play the poor victim. Hilarious. Nobody is fooled, but keep trying.
CBS: In his fifth term now, McConnell has an approval rating in Kentucky of 36 percent. Silent but sullen, most of his own party doesn't really like him. The state's Democrats, who still control the governorship and the lower house, positively despise the man.

They don't have a charm school out there that could teach those dumb repukes how to win over women and minorities. Get use to it. Everyday a repuke or teabagger sticks his foot in his mouth and just can't help walking the talk. They let those little racial slurs slip out and vote against womens equal pay right, want to take food out of children's mouths like that idiot repuke from Tennessee. Keep trying. You repukes will never see the light. You are right though...teaching the dumb.

Conway told Louisville’s NPR affiliate earlier Thursday that two Progress Kentucky employees bragged to him about recording the meeting through a door in McConnell’s office.
Sean Reilly and Curtis Morrison told him they
into McConnell’s freshly-opened campaign office
and recorded it.
