Yes, I am contending that al Qaeda is still a huge threat, and it was known to have a strong presence in Benghazi, which further leads to the question of why Stephens was there in the first place, as opposed to in the more strongly protected Embassy in Tripoli. But, again, that would not fit the narrative Obama was pushing that "he"had defeated al Qaeda.
Do you really think that DC wasn't notified from the get go that the consulate was under attack? That was ALL DC should have needed to know to get assets moving to protect American lives. And you either missed the point or are being deliberately misleading in regards to the current contention that they "couldn't get there in time" - that is an argument that can only be made in hindsight, and even at that it is false. First, there was the team in Tripoli that was told to wait for hours before finally given the go ahead and there was the Response Team in Italy that could have been there long before the attack that killed Woods and Doherty. And as one military official stated to one of the witnesses (sorry, don't have time to look up, but will be happy to later) after being told to stand down "well this is the first time a state dept official has more balls (sorry for the vulgarity) than a member of the military" when referring to his higher up who would not let him get his team into action. And theses are the names we still need - who ordered the military to stand down or delay (and who gave Susan Rice her "script".)

I'm sure you know your post is touching only on a small part on the whole sordid affair. Everyone in Washington is in cover up mode to protect their political careers or jobs except for those testifying to the committee.
And now there may be another investigation into the investigation by the investigators who investigated Hillary and laid the blame on the underlings.

Follow that tongue twister.

Yep, but she is sure good at lying for Obama, like many others.

Clinton did resign but I expect it was NOT from conscience (as she and Bill have no conscience), more likely to get away from Obama. I agree with the rest of your post, they were scapegoats in name only.
Coverups are a part of government to cover their incompetence, law breaking, and to extend their political career whether be they left wingers or right winger or moderates. They gotta keep feeding at the trough.
Agree completely, my only point regarding Clinton is that she should have resigned IMMEDIATELY, instead of simply stating "I take responsibility" followed by " What difference does it make?" And no one thinks she was going to remain Sec of State both terms, her resignation was already planned - so again - no consequences.

I will not argue the figures, correct or incorrect they are the result of many years of Bush rule. The country was headed to the worst economic disaster in its history. The country was headed to the worst job numbers in its history just as Bush left. It took years of bad policy and out of control military spending to get us in this place. I can still hear Bushes V.P. Cheney saying Regan proved that deficit spending was not a problem, what a load of crap.

Why don't you quit riding on the backs of others? That's all you do. I suppose this post is supposed to make you appear as "one of the guys'? So! Your definition of being spanked, sent to bed and owned is someone resorting to vulgarity? That must make one a "real man" in your eyes. When someone resorts to vulgarity it's simply a lack of being able to express oneself any better. It's not to be admired. Of course, one has to have at least a thimblefull of gray matter to realize that. That explains YOU.
Thanks for this post, Synergy. I somehow missed this post until just now. You summed it up in as few words as possible. An ability he doesn't come close to having.

An article by David Frum who used to be one of your own until the extreme conservatives kicked him to the curb. It was written just after the clubbing that your candidate got last Nov. and judging by the extremists herein it's no wonder that you are a shrinking minority. You haven't learned a damn thing. You just double down on "stupid", to borrow a term from Gov. Jindal.

And here's some polling analysis that helps explain your shrinking status:

http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-03-22...

I sort of understand your frustration and lashing out continuously at the perceived boogeyman of (pick the flavor de jour - socialism, fascism, environmentalism, etc.) but if your so damn smart why are your numbers shrinking? You represent an antiquated and fictitious view of America that really has never existed and that's where you seem to want to return to. I saw this the other day and as a bumper sticker it fits the situation perfectly.

"Politics is like driving a car- Put it in D to go forward and R to go backward"

I'll leave you with this link to a good history lesson describing the rise of ultra conservatism in your party. I would guess that many folks here already understand the history of the so-called "white flight" from the Southern Dixiecrats to the Republican Party and Nixon’s (Lee Atwater who btw went to his grave ashamed of what he’d done)‘southern strategy’. Others may not. It’s long and I know that those with a short attention span won’t read it, but…..there it is.

I wont argue with your analysis but have this to say about your last sentence, "I can still hear Bushes V.P. Cheney saying Regan proved that deficit spending was not a problem, what a load of crap."

Obama and many of his supporters say the same thing as Cheney. Obama promised changed and what we got was the same oh thing and worse, even IO agrees with this. The point in all this arguing you see on topix is because most Obama supporters DONT see the sameness and basically worship Obama.

FYI; the major voting blocks are whites, blacks, asians, and hispanics. Whites make up the majority at present but votes are split between both parties, blacks are noted for voting heavily democratic, asians have a more balanced voting record but still mostly vote democratic, and hispanics have swung both ways when voting.

A difference of 5% in the white voting population can sway an election, not so with the other races as the percentages have to be larger in order to sway an election.

Either you didn't read or understand what I wrote or what the articles that I linked said. None said that the GOP was in "demise" but rather that is was shrinking. Big difference. The authors and me talk about what the party has become not necessarily where it's going.
The GOP will survive due in part to gerrymandering (not that the Democrats don't do it too, just that the last go 'round will favor Republicans for some time) and a concentrated base, especially in the South, hence the "Calhoun strategy".

The Truth About Attacks on Our Diplomats
Shocker: When terrorists attack US interests abroad, they don't distinguish between administrations that are "projecting weakness" or practicing "peace through strength."
—By Adam Serwer | Wed Oct. 3, 2012 3:00 AM PDT
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/10/l...

To hear Republicans explain it, the protests at US embassies around the world and the attack on a US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead are a result of the Obama administration "projecting weakness."

"When we project weakness abroad, our enemies are more willing to test us, they are more brazen and our allies are less willing to trust us," said vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan at an event in Colorado last week. "[T]hat will not happen under a Mitt Romney administration because we believe in peace through strength." Ryan was referring to potential defense cuts, so if Al Qaeda pays enough attention to American budget politics to base its strikes on funding cuts then they probably know Ryan projected weakness by voting for them in the first place.

..."High-profile targets like ambassadors have always been in danger because they're the symbol of the United States," Chamberlin says. "What you don't want to represent is that you distrust the people, that you don't want to engage with the people, that you hate being there. It's an important part of your mission and get out and mix with the population." Moreover, under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations it is actually the host country that is responsible for the security of diplomatic facilities, not the Marines. The primary responsibility of the Marine Corps' Embassy Security Group states that its "primary mission" is "to prevent the compromise of classified material vital to the national security of the United States," while their "secondary mission" is to "provide protection for US citizens and US government property" during "exigent circumstances." Their first responsibility is to guard secrets, not diplomats.
