Clint Eastwood endorsing Romney's presidential bid

By STEVE PEOPLES
Associated Press
Fri, Aug 3, 2012

SUN VALLEY, Idaho (AP)— Clint Eastwood just made Mitt Romney's day.

The Oscar-winning director and longtime movie star says he's endorsing the Republican presidential candidate.

Eastwood tells The Associated Press that he's backing Romney because, in Eastwood's words, "I think the country needs a boost."

Eastwood was among those attending a Romney fundraiser Friday night in Sun Valley, Idaho.

In February, Eastwood told Fox News that he wasn't supporting any politician at that time. Some saw the "halftime in America" ad he made for the Super Bowl as a nod toward President Barack Obama. Eastwood responded then by saying he was not "politically affiliated" with the president.

Obama 'Devastating' For Civil Liberties

October 10, 2011

Jonathan Turley argues in a recent op-ed in the Los Angeles Times that "the election of Barack Obama may stand as one of the single most devastating events in our history for civil liberties."

JOHN DONVAN, host: And now, the Opinion Page. After eight years under President Bush, many civil libertarians were thrilled when Barack Obama won the 2008 election. What a difference a few years make. Law Professor Jonathan Turley argues in a recent op-ed that, quote, "the election of Barack Obama may stand as one of the single most devastating events in our history for civil liberties."

So Jonathan Turley, he's a law professor at George Washington University. His piece, "Obama: A Disaster for Civil Liberties," ran last month in the Los Angeles Times, and he joins us now in Studio 3A. So you say of President Obama that his election may be one of the single most devastating events in our history for civil liberties? That is very, very strong language, Jonathan.

JONATHAN TURLEY: It is a strong language, but I think civil libertarians are coming to grips with what is really a building disaster for our movement, and it's been a rather difficult process. You know, I have a large civil liberties blog, and there's a lot of soul-searching among civil libertarians about what exactly happened. But we are engaging in a sense of collective denial when we deal with President Obama.

DONVAN: You mean you're not talking about it publicly.

TURLEY: Yeah. And I think that's part of the purpose of this column, is to address the fact that President Obama is a perfect nightmare when it comes to civil liberties. He not only adopted most of President Bush's policies in the civil liberties areas when it comes to terrorism, but he actually expanded on them. He outdid George Bush.

And they range. His position on torture and refusing to have people investigated or prosecuted for torture, on privacy lawsuits. He pushed aggressively for the dismissal of dozens of lawsuits brought by private interest organizations. He's for immunity for people who engaged in warrantless surveillance. He has fought standing for people even to be able to get courts to review his programs, much like George Bush. He kept military tribunals and the authority to make the discretionary choice of sending some people to a real court, some people to a military tribunal. He has asserted the right to kill U.S. citizens based solely on his own discretion, that he believes them to be a threat to the country.

His administration has, once again, as with the Bush administration, cited secret law, that - and including a case of assassinating citizens - a law that we're not allowed to see, but we have to trust them.

Pure Filth! Obama Campaign Sues in Bid to Suppress Military Vote

In a move that could have an impact on the final result of the presidential election, Barack Obama’s campaign has sued Ohio to block a measure which extends early voting for members of the military.

The action brought quick responses from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and as many as 15 military groups.

DeWine told Fox News on Friday that he found the July 17 action by Obama campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party “quite shocking."

The tradition for allowing special circumstances for military personnel in voting dates back to the civil war, he said.

Ohio is among 32 states that allow voters to cast an early ballot by mail or in person without an excuse. In 2008, about 30 percent of the swing state's total vote — or roughly 1.7 million ballots — came in ahead of Election Day.

In addition, state law allows families of armed forces members and civilians overseas to vote through the Monday before an election, while early voting for all other Ohioans ends the preceding Friday. The Nov. 6 election falls on a Tuesday.

The Obama lawsuit said that the latter part of the Ohio law is “arbitrary” with “no discernible rational basis”— and that all voters should be able to vote on those days. The campaign seeks a court order invalidating the statutes.

In his response, filed late on Wednesday, DeWine noted that all Ohioans have numerous voting options, which include casting an absentee by mail starting 35 days before the election, casting an in-person ballot on other days, and voting at their polling location on Election Day.

Racist Progressive NBC Airs an extremely "Racist Monkey Commercial" with a smile on its face performing on rings doing a gymnastics event after Gabby Douglas wins Olympics Gold Medal...

Romney's wealth doesn't bother me. Did the Kennedy's wealth bother voters?

Here's an interesting article on possible Obama landslide in Electoral votes.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/08...

Romney needs to be bold with his VP pick and stop being 'Mr Nice Guy'.

This IS Romney's last chance to run for Presidency, also realize he needs to do it 'his' way instead of bend to media 'advisors' but Romney is appearing much like McCain-weak!(not that Obama appears strong, he just has the media and advocates speaking out, let's face it, Obama is a wimpy-he does not project strength at all. A wimpy guy)

Also, understand that Romney is battling the slanted and biased media. Obama is perfect, everyone else is flawed.

Believe that Rubio, as VP, can make a difference. He can reach the latino ears and votes in all states, not just FL.

When it comes to the ballot box that latino name and a familiar refrain from the Romney/Rubio campaign trail can and will resonate in latino ears when they punch the ballot.

Rubio needs to project a future for latinos BEYOND Obama's focus on just immigration for this 2012 election.

Rubio can hammer home that he will be the voice and face for latinos AFTER winning the election. He will continue to advocate for them, well after Obama has used latinos to get elected.

Rubio's focus can be to bring latinos forward in employment, education, home ownership, political advancement. After an Obama election the latinos will be dropped-the battle has been won-but Rubio would and could be a LASTING voice!

http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/...

It is vitally important to vote, vote straight republican to dominate the senate and congress to balance Obama, if he wins.

But still if re-elected, Obama will nominate at the least, two more Supreme Court Judges, and have a lifetime of influence on the courts and our country.

It's NOT the popular vote, remember it's the electoral votes.

Light your fire, Mitt. It's now or never, there's no third opportunity, go for it.

Romney is not playing dirty. He's not that kind of guy. One would think Americans would embrace the nice guy, but it seems they go for the dirty guy and his thugs.

Vote NO in NOvember, NO to OWEbama and NO to ObamaCare. REpeal ObamaCare.

My first impression was that he was very arrogant and I suspect there are more than just a few others who share this impression. He needs to convince the working class that he cares for them with a detailed plan for helping them and not just empty rhetoric. Trickle down economics work better on paper than they do in real life.

Romney's wealth shouldn't bother anyone, it's how he got that way is what's bothering people.

Teabaggers complaining about the lack of "transparency" in the Obama administration are now defending the same in their candidate.

If he wants to run on his agenda as a successful "businessman", why doesn't he PROVE it by releasing his tax returns and some financial records of how he became "successful".

Romney is bad candidate, he lies, he cheats his country - he does not pay proper income taxes, he ruins US economy, he is pro-war monger and it is everything very bad. Bad decision means bad consequences.
The only solution for USA and for the world is Ron Paul, who is honest, wise, great US politician and he is the only chance for the world and for USA.
