Obama bought and paid or the AARP 4 years ago so what did you expect ?

Special rules apply to AARPs 'Advantage plans' over everybody elses ' Medigap plans'.Just typical LEFTY crony capitalism at work.
But of course the rules are still being written.

Romney now says the uninsured should go to emergency rooms. That costs 5-6 times more & makes as much sense as opening a window on an airplane.

Duh , most doctors don't take emergency appointments and their messages tell you so.

Most docs answering machines say " If it's an emergency dial 911".

Most docs are open about 35-40 hours a week but the week has 168 hours.

How many doctors take walk-in sick patients ? What %...20-30-40 ?

Get sick at 5:00 PM Friday night and what do you do ? How about 5:00 PM Friday night on a 3 day weekend ?

His comment is nowheres off base as LEFTY claims.

If you are talking about a preventive medicine health checkup than that is a different story.

Now will see how LEFTY spins this ?

Actually that's exactly what Romney was talking about- ROUTINE CARE, not emergency care.

He was saying the uninsured could just go to the ER for ROUTINE MEDICAL CARE.

That's EXACTLY what MILLIONS of uninsured currently do, which is why healthcare costs are so expensive.

Qualification for Medicare does not depent on income, but rather age. So whomever wrote this is as uninformed on the program of Medicare as you are...... Moreover, there is already a private insurance component of mediare, it's called Medicare advantage. Only seniors who are physically fit can qualify to participate with the HMO private plans. They refuse to take seniors with pre existing conditions now.

Obama: And I will — I will never turn Medicare into a voucher.
No American should ever have to spend their golden years at the mercy of insurance companies. They should retire with the care and the dignity they have earned. Yes, we will reform and strengthen Medicare for the long haul, but we’ll do it by reducing the cost of health care, not by asking seniors to pay thousands of dollars more. And we will keep the promise of Social Security by taking the responsible steps to strengthen it, not by turning it over to Wall Street.
Expiration date — the very next day, courtesy of some fine reporting by National Journal’s Margot-Sanger-Katz [see update]:
In his convention speech in Charlotte, President Obama vowed to block the Republican Medicare reform plan because “no American should ever have to spend their golden years at the mercy of insurance companies.”
But back in Washington, his Health and Human Services Department is launching a pilot program that would shift up to 2 million of the poorest and most-vulnerable seniors out of the federal Medicare program and into private health insurance plans overseen by the states.
The administration has accepted applications from 18 states to participate in the program, which would give states money to purchase managed-care plans for people who are either disabled or poor enough to qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. HHS approved the first state plan, one for Massachusetts, last month.

The Medicare reform plan championed by GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, would encourage more seniors to move into managed-care plans by giving them vouchers to purchase insurance. The idea is to create a marketplace that would compete with traditional Medicare for customers.

Obama has repeatedly warned that this approach would lead to the demise of traditional Medicare, one of the most popular government programs. He has also attacked Romney’s proposal to give states fixed sums to care for Medicaid patients, a change from the current system in which the federal government matches a portion of state spending.

But critics see irony in the administration’s support for the state pilot programs.“It does seem to move the dual-eligible population in kind of a different direction from where the energy seems to be,” said Patricia Nemore, a consultant to the Center for Medicare Advocacy, one of 33 consumer groups to sign a letter of concern to HHS.

Obama is absolutely correct, privatizing Medicare is the fast way to insure it's demise. Republicans have never believed in Medicare since it's inception. Their single aim has been to eliminate Medicare and turn those funds and patients over to the private insurance industry. Presently in America isn't impossible for seniors to receive a quote from a private insurance company.

But PPP delved deeper with its next question, shifting from general language (“Do you support or oppose Paul Ryan’s proposal for reforming Medicare?”) to a specific reference to the Medicare voucher program — causing support for Ryan’s Medicare plan to erode even further. Sixty-three percent of voters say that Medicare should not be replaced with vouchers to allow the elderly to buy private insurance, while only 19 percent support the voucher plan.

Worse for Ryan, only 29 percent of Republicans support the voucher plan. That’s higher than the 6 percent of Democrats and 22 percent of independents who support the plan, but it still represents the minority position in the GOP: 44 percent of Republicans say Medicare should not be replaced with a voucher system. Polls have consistently shown low support for Ryan’s proposed changes to Medicare, underscoring the vulnerabilities in Romney’s vice presidential pick.
