Retirement for a Pope is the same as abdication of a King. That is why it has never happened before in the Catholic religion. Popes, even those who were notorious for their unchristian conduct, were to be revered as holy men of God and had to die before a new Pope could be elected.

As if God would condone ungodly conduct by any of his earthly children, the Bible says every ungodly person will be destroyed in the Judgement, we are in that day right now.
