Why leave it up to the church?
All reports of abuse should be handled by local law enforcement.
Priests deserve to be treated like anyone else who commits a crime.
Cuff 'em, haul them off to the pokey, and give them their day in court.
Agreed.

what about the abuse enablers such as Cardinal Bernard Law who still enjoy the full protection and sanctuary provided by the Vatican and this pope?

What about them? Is there EVER going to be SUBSTANTIAL ACTION in this AREA???

Or must we continue to hear the same tired old "sorry" "shame" "humiliation" words with nothing whatsoever behind them.

And what about this very pope's own complicity in the dreadful and epidemic coverup of unspeakable evil against children that occurred under his predecessor?

Anyone can say they are sorry. Its showing true remorse that makes all difference. I don't understand why these suckers aren't in prison?

So one wonders when the school districts, other protestant denominations, youth organizations, and youth sports will get the message and begin to respond to sexual abuse of minors.

That is quite correct, it's called following your conscience and is fully encouraged by the Catholic Church despite nonsensical claims otherwise.
Anyways:
Look at my flesh and bone
Now, look, look, look, look,
Look at his tower of stone
I see a rainbow rising
Look there, on the horizon
And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home
Time is standing still
He gave back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
But it's not home
But it's not home
Ooh
I guess that my conscience is in favour of fair treatment and equality.

I loved Rainbow and Blackmore has always been my favourite guitarist. I remember seeing them on their first tour in 1976.

Khatru, this is pure poetry, and captures the essence of the RCCult.

They already do. You don't get out much, do you?
BTW, this thread refers to the RCCult's organize coverup of the behavior of its rapist priests and their enabling pimp-bishops and cardinals. You might want to pay attention.

Truly the response of local public school systems, and other religious denominations has been minimal at best. The schools in particular need a comprehensive program to eliminate the abuse and deal with the teachers who have abused.

The U.S. bishops have done a stellar job in acknowledging their mistakes, and resolving the sexual abuse within the clergy.
