It's not the skin color or nationality that gets one elected as Pope. It's his knowledge of God's word and works.

We are all God's children!

i got news for you fella, the southern half of america may have enslaved blacks, but the other half the northern half fought and died killing their own kind to help them to freedom. northern decendant american whites dont have any more to feel sorry about. they paid with their own blood and deaths to get them what they needed. that white guilt routine and neverending salad bar of free welfare hand outs has its limits, especially when they are elected president of the nation that use to enslave them.
the whites you are wanting to blame have been dead a long time now. this is the wrong century and society for that kind of mind games of free housing, food, eucation and cheese. at some time if they really are going to embrace equality, then they are going to have to let that entitlement philosophy go.
Lets' remember that whites fought the Civil War to keep the country together, that Lincoln was doing the same up to at LEAST the time of the Emacipation Proclamation, and that huge numbers of BLACK Americans signed up and fought as soon as the North would let them. They freed themselves, to a large extent.

A lot of the hatred comes from the NEXT hundred years of hatred, racism, lynching, segregation, and abuse, in case you didn't know. If equality had quickly followed slavery, we wouldn't have the problems we still have today.

Your own phrase "entitlement philsophy" shows your OWN bigotry here.

Nonsense. It's his ability to play Vatican politics, get bishops and cardinals to support him, and to promise favors - exactly the way American politicians get elected, though in a smaller, internalized environment.

Sure, you have to know something of your faith, its organization and practice, etc. but they're political leaders. Don't kid yourself.

no they did not free themselves to a large extent. If that had been the case then they would have on their own single handedly mounted a counter offensive to successfully overthrow slavery. the northern white union army and its goals which included national solidarity as much as the end of slavery are what contributed primarily to their freedom. the problem is you are going all the way back to Lincoln's time to draw argument as if that were current conditions. you are still thinking the past as if it were still just moments after his presidential term. you cheapen the sacrifice of northern white union Americans who fought died and killed their own friends and relatives by not giving respectful credit for what they sacrificed to lead this country on a moral path. you give them no credit for standing against their own racial demographic and that takes a lot of determination for a majority demographic to fight its own kind for a wronged minority. by not distinguishing the good of northern union whites as separate and distinctive, respectable from the slave owning southern confederates, it is you who shows a continued reverse profiling of all whites as somehow indefinitely owing blacks anything and everything they vaguely define as reparation for a never-ending period of time. If someone is willing to institutionalize free/reduced housing, food, healthcare, education and employment indefinitely until I say we are equal, well then it would be no great surpise if the benefit recipient continued to say there was unresolved inequality. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as much as a natural instinct to secure basic resources. One would expect that from people without checks and balances to a system. when they progress from enslavement to being the president of the nation, Former Secretary of State, secretaries of defense, house and senate representatives and so on then that is most certainly a noteworthy and monumental change in society.

the next pope should be the most qualified person for the job without minority quota EEO considerations of racial demographics. if it turned out that a black applicant was thee best qualified then in fact that would be the best choice, but a the title of this topic suggests they should get the job because they are black and that is minority job quota entitlement philosophy agenda.

There hasn't been hatred or abuse in the last 40 years. The only hatred now are from the blacks.

You're full of crap, basically. I have ancestors who FOUGHT for the North, and am proud of their accomplishments - I'm obviously not "cheapening" them. I'm saying that many tens of thousands of African-American troops fought bravely for the North and helped win the war and free their brothers and sisters in chains. Ar e you disputing that? Good luck.

That "reverse profiling" nonsense is even sillier. Get real.

Maybe try READING their reasons as to why he should be African, dingbat. Naturally you want to keep black people in their place and do so via whines about "entitlement" and "affirmative action," that's the new Right's racism for you.

the title of this topic is...
Why the next pope should be African

if it had been "Why the next pope should be John Doe who happens to be African" then i wouldnt have a problem with the subject. but it doesnt say that, it just says he should be the next pope because he is African. the wording of the topic betrays the subtle intent of reverse entitlement discrimination.

they should not "give" the job position to anyone, red yellow black or white. the job position of pope should go to the most qualified. last time i checked the pope application does not require the voluntary minority status form that we all know really does go into the job hire decision making process no matter how much they lie and say it doesnt. shouldnt god be making the decision. isnt it supposed to be a divinely inspired title. sure sounds like a lot of man made bureacratic rules and regulations by old school italian church power mafia brokers that like raking in that money from the docile field workers.
There's no list of special qualifications to be Pope, ANY Cardinal or Bishop is easily "qualified" by experience, knowledge of Church ritual, etc. to be Pope.

Given that a big chunk of Catholics now live south of the Equator, an African Pope would signify Church recognition of that. So would a S. American Pope, for that matter.

After accepting that, it's merely looking for the best candidate out there.

Naturaly, you'd rather race-bait and find more reasons to give it to a European.

No reason a woman COULDN'T, but with no male priests, bishops, archbishops, or cardinals, there's no path to the Papacy for women, unfortunately.

To them God is DEFINITELY a male, and the Church a patriarchy.
