I do NOT wish harm to you, nor do I look forward to your demise, Churm. What a silly thing to say. I believe you do alot of good, but you could just have a little more sympathy for the creatures that are vilified by society for no good reason other than they are trying to survive like the rest of us.

<quoted text> Been up since before daylight. Ive just come in for some noon turkey day leftovers. It rained last nite and apparently after it stopped the varmits where active. I made a very respectable catch. any how when you use words like deserve ect it has no validity. I my opinion there isnt much difference between deserve and fair share. If a dog is tresspassing and the land owner believes its about to? then it can be legally destroyed. Heck in Texas you can legally kill human tresspassers. to keep others from opening your gate you could do like me and put a padlock on it. I will continue to do what I can legally.
We had a trespasser on our land. He was from AZ and claimed to be hunting, but didn't know Michigan laws. He still knew it wasn't his land. Either way, we had no interest in killing him. Like I said, death is the ultimate penalty I think should be reserved only for most evil among us. I don't place lost hunters, dogs, or raccoons in that category.

Not bad, Iíll comment in the thread in a bit. I went this direction for a small concealable to replace my little .380. http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/aegis-ii/ul... Slightly larger and all match grade. While I favor the .45 ACP over the 9mm, the 9mm is more than adequate in most situations.

My yard IS fenced. Maybe you missed the part about the meter reader leaving the gate open. The point still remains, the dog does not deserve death for walking on someone's property, no matter how special you think you are.
What you consider a weak argument is a very real scenerio.
Another time, we had guests who brought their 4 year old grandchild over. The kid wanted to play with the dog. He tried opening the gate even after I told him that was absolutely out of the question. When I turned away, he tried opening it again. Needless to say, the third time it happened I was not so nice in my correcting him. If I had been at work, what would have happened?
Sometimes dogs get out. Big deal. That's why God gave most humans a heart and a brain.
You completely missed the point. Letís try this, Iíll not quote your entire post.

<quoted text>So the poor child is at school and Mommy accidentally lets the dog get loose. Screw the child in your opinion? He/She was irresponsible and deserves to lose his/her pet in a cruel and inhumane manner?

<quoted text>Your argument is so weak you felt it necessary to bring a child into the debate. Where I live itís illegal to allow your dog outside unrestrained by leash or fence. I too will deal with a dog on my property in a manner I deem appropriate.
Why exactly did you bring a child into the debate? Notice, I didnít say scenario. Do try to keep up.

Now you have the grandchild opening the gate and asked what would have happened then. What would have happened if you were at work. You would go to work leaving a 4 year old home alone? Regardless, still your responsibility to keep your dog under control. Your dog, your gate, your responsibility.

If your dog comes onto my property Iíll take whatever action I deem necessary. If your dog is aggressive and on my property it will be shot. I donít care who left the gate open, the dog will die.

Spare me your invisible deity. It has no relevance in this debate.

Have you ever seen the damage deer can do? What about humans? Do you advocate elimination of those species too?
I once had squirrels chew a hole in my roof and get into my attic. I made sure all of them were out and fixed my roof. They haven't tried getting back in...yet...that I know of. But I don't advocate going into the wild and killing all squirrels either just because they do damage, or have the ability to do damage.
I had a similar problem with squirrels and decided to handle it as a rodent problem. Not my fault the squirrels ate the ďfoodĒ I put out for mice. Iíve not seen a squirrel in months.

Iíve not advocated for the elimination of any species. As for humans, do come on my property and be destructive. I will confront a human under those circumstance and will confront them. If they become aggressive toward me Iíll ďfear for my lifeĒ and shoot them as well. Like it or not, the law would be on my side.

People such as yourself make me ill. You think simply because someone leaves your gate open I should tolerate your dog being on my property to do whatever your dog might do. Recently a dog came on my property. In fact, it came inside my garage while I was in the garage. Seemed friendly enough, it didnít get shot.

What part did you miss about a "healthy ecosystem?" I already have the raccoons and opossums that my half acre can sustain. This is a picture of my raccoon friend. She has raised no fewer than eight babies in my yard.

What exactly is a healthy ecosystem? The ecosystem changes over time. Long before man came along species would die off. Youíre using generic terms in the same fashion you use your invisible deity. Youíre simply attempting to find someone or something to agree with you.

Raccoons do not have friends. Donít believe me; attempt to pet your ďfriendĒ. More amusing would be watching you attempt to pick it up.

I know a whole lot more about wildlife than what you think I know! Nature photograthy is my hobby and my passion. A nature photographer has to know their subjects very well. I have lots of experience with raccoons and many different forms of wildlife, though my specialty is birds.
I ask these questions because I want that person to site their source of information. I've found too many people just repeat myths and old wives' tales that have passed from one generation to the next about wildlife.
What I try to do is get at the truth after years of actual studies performed by experts, and present that to people who still believe falsities and kill animals unnecessarily under those false beliefs.
You would have to know a lot more about wildlife than I think you know.

ďSiteĒ[sic] source? I did cite my source.
