Don't go to Mexico than complain after you have been a victim of crime.

The risk you take going there is staggering.

I agree with you. I live in Chihuahua, City. I have been traveling and doing research all my life in Mexico. I have business here and my wife. Lived here for just over 3 years. You are right when you say everyone is corrupt. If it is the overwhelming majority I just say everyone. From being robbed of petty things at the resorts. To i pods and flashlights, jewelry and more at checkpoints and other localities. You are a target for theft big time. A traveler being drugged is not uncommon. You really do not know who to trust. Even family here steals from each other. If you find someone good you try to keep them near you. I have some friends but it took me a long time to acquire them. There are so many people involved in the drug business. When you find out who some of them are it just blows you away. It seems like this country survives on the sale and growing and making of drugs.

Traveling can get you killed and I have had my fair share of instances where I thought I would not come out alive. But the money and the love of a beautiful woman makes it worth while. I love the country. It is beautiful. Too bad I can not travel to see more now. Things have changed for the worse in Mexico. They are getting worse in the USA as illegal gang members seem to pass through a border full of holes. Nearly half the murders in the USA are attributed to violent gang members and drugs supplied via Mexico.

Crime against tourists happens more then you can imagine. It is just about never reported and nothing is ever done about it. Some are lucky and have never been touched by it. But sometimes those seemingly lucky are people are those that never leave the resort or know what to watch for. It is going to get worse.

Look at Mexico city now. Just within months the crime and killings have risen. Kidnappings and extortion are a way of life in Mexico City and all over Mexico. I would not bring my father to vacation in Mexico City where I live now. My family no linger travels to vacation in Mazatlan where they have had their money robbed by hotel staff right out of the front desk safe.

Cities in Mexico are like an earthquake. You know there are tectonic plates that could move at anytime and create havoc. The underbelly of Mexico is totally crime ridden government and officials, and many criminals and gangs. You just never know when you are going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was detained by the Mexican border patrol just a couple of weeks ago because I bought some minerals in Samalayuca, Chihuahua just a few weeks ago. I have passed them through many times. They are sold in shops and exported all over the USA. This time in passing things were different with newer Aduanas working the stop. I was detained for 5 hours. They were going to take my car, and take me to jail and then to prison until a judge could here my case. Remember it is different in Mexico, and you are guilty first and have to prove your innocence later. If my Friend who was with me did not know someone in higher places I would have been doing 6 to 9 years in Prison over a minerals that are being sold all over Mexico. The guys that bring them up even have permits which they saw. They did not care. They had a gringo and a way to make easy money and points. They are still selling them now. But it does not matter to them. It was my time to almost pay the price in these shark infested waters they call Mexico.

Be careful when in Mexico. Mexico is going down the toilet everyday, and the millions that have fled across the border into the USA do not want to come back either. Many expats in El Paso say I am crazy for living here because it is so dangerous. Many have not even crossed the border in Mexico for many years. Am I crazy? Maybe a little. But I am not afraid to die either. It is part of a process we all face.

@Concerned, I will not quote your whole text because it is too extense. There are many things that I want to correct because the picture you give of Mexico (people and culture) is so negative.

I have to agree with you, that northern Mexicans are not my kind of people, and I know from THEM many instances of what you mention, even the detail you give about trechery inside the family.

Look, if a German, Japanese, Russian would heard you talking like that of their countries, they will simply say "What the hell are you doing here? Go to you country, ugly gringo!".

Because you are (or so I think) a decent person, I will politely recomend you to reconsider what are you doing here. OK you have your wife, your kids... surely will not be so difficult (or so I assume) to take them to the USA, if you like, a city near the border so your wife just have to drive to visit relatives. As you put the things (and probably you are right IN THE NORTH) you are letting your family and yourself live at risk, and even being "contaminated" with the trashy culture of us bea.ners.

Maybe later I will say more about specific details that you offer. But so far I think that the contradiction of thinking like that of Mexico, and living (and even saying you are thriving there as you said somwhere), is an elefant of contradiction.

Regards.

No, the US president should send Drones and Apaches to kill us "Mexican terrorists" from the air, like in a videogame, like you did with Iraqui civilians.

Come on. So will will down them with the "Igla" that we already bought from the Russians.

Boycott Mexico??

you shoud help Mexico instead

Dude you realy dont know what you talking about, and you dont have a fucking idea about politics and the reasons why it is like that sure its sad what happend to the tourists but the reason why mexico is in war are the U.S. so if someone shoud be quit its the USA the customer of the drugs which mexicans are transporting to you

so i say legalize drugs so the market will drop to the bottom and so the mexicans can live in peace

Miami is where all the corrupt LatAm people eventualy go.

He could talk bad of all "Hispanics" and "Hispanic Countries" because he gets automatic citizenship/residence and incredible financial grants just because he is Cuban.

However the unemployed and homeless Americans never will receive any information about that. The Mafia won all that for every Cuban that betray their homeland. Is a "sacred" deal.

But what have they done to Miami? Well you could read it eventually (in page 32 of any newspaper)... but here comes again.

I have the impression that this episode of the 6 Spanish tourists was staged... a concerted campaign from the USA and Spain against the Spring-Market going to Mexico.

Fortunately, I think the new goverment will learn fast.

The more some American interests stage campaigns against tourism to Mexico... the more Mexican tourist companies and hotels will be forced to look for new markets like Russia and China.

Come on!! Keep the good work.

I want to put to good practice my knowledge of Russian and Chinese writting.

How many times the Cuban rightwing exiles have boycotted Mexico?

Should they not consolidate all that into a single, permanent boycott?

I doesn't seem to have been staged, from what news showed they were actually Spanish immigrants living in Mexico city which is why they took the economic package of going to a less glamorous part of the Beach and renting a house instead of staying in a hotel.

Just to let you know sirius. I am an American. I have no beef with the Mexican people in Mexico or the legal Mexican people in the USA. NONE!!! I really enjoy the good people of Mexico as well as the good people of the USA, or for that matter of the world. I have no agenda. I have had a lot of experience in all of my life in Mexico. Mexico is beautiful and has some wonderful people. Mexico already has it's Identity spelled out my it's actions. I do not need to say what the world thinks of Mexico. If you were to write a list starting with number one, you know as well as I do what people around the world are going to say Mexico is known for. Some are good, and some are bad. If you write the list you will be one sided because you live here and are very pro Mexico. You are defending yourself it seems like and your honor. If a racist American writes the list he will be one sided.

My wife is Mexican. All my friends are Mexican. I just went fishing with a group of my Mexican friends over the weekend. All through the night they talked about corruption, narcos, crime and the problems. They did not talk about tourists or beaches. They had some beers and were venting. I did not put any input into the conversation. I just listened.

I do not kiss the ass of America or Mexico. I also talk about the problems in the USA that effect Americans. The crisis was caused by loaning institutions and lax government oversight. I will not smooth out anything.

I only speak what I see and hear. What I read in the Mexican papers, hear from the citizens and what I see on TV. I only want what is good for Mexico, the USA and for the world. But I will not paint a different picture other then what I see. When I complain about something, I get the same response here. You are in Mexico. It is as simple as that! I just learn to adjust and enjoy life as best I can. No country is perfect. But many as you know have more problems then others. The ones that effect the people directly on a daily basis with tragedy are the worst. I am a person for the little man. Not big government, corruption, or criminals running around killing with little worry of being caught. That goes for all countries. I like your posts with modern Mexico and the positives also. I see them. But it is not good to bury your head in the sand and let unspeakable things happen either. If they are not talked about or addressed nothing will ever be done to curtail it. You say I portray the Mexican people negative. Not true! I do not put everyone in the same boat!

One more thing. I do not paint a picture of what is happening here. Each county paints it's own picture by it's actions and what they do. You as well as I know from your reports that you have your own pictures about other countries that would appear negative. But you are right in most instances, because what you read and see and know has happened projects an image on you and to the world. I can also give you a lot of negatives on some of the American people, but that would not be fair either as the majority are also good people. After all this is the Mexico forum. Do not take it so personally. You do not like the Northern Mexicans so well, but they are Mexicans. Most of them here do not speak so highly of Mexican people from D.F. They say you are slick talking scam artists. Some of them might be offended by your remarks and you might be offended by theirs. Here I see a lot of Cowboys and farmers. Known in the USA as hard working and down to earth people. Maybe Eduardo is offended by your remarks as he lives in Northern Mexico I believe. So you also painted a picture. I do not have to agree, but sometimes I might if I see it your way. But I am always brutally honest about my words. But forums are where you can speak your feelings as it is obvious. You can see who are racists. You can see who are the idiots. You can also see who the people are that are of better intelligence. As an example. I see you and Eduardo as above average in intelligence and very well spoken. You are proud of your country. You see. You do paint a picture with your words and actions. So do countries. Not all people in the USA are drug users, and not all people in Mexico are drug dealers. I am sure that everyone on these forums knows you are intelligent.
