Report: Iran starts building $10 billion gas pipeline to Syria to boost its energy sector

An Iranian semi-official news agency says the country has started building a $10 billion natural gas pipeline to Syria as part of efforts to boost its energy sector that has been battered by international sanctions. Full Story

In combined hydrocarbons(Oil and gas) reserves, Iran is on top of the world. Iran has 155 billion barrels of oil and 1200 trillion cubic feet of gas(or equivalent to 375 billion barrels of hydrocarbon energy compared to Saudi Arabia's 255 billion barrels of oil and 250 trillion cubic feet of gas(or total of 300 billion barrels equivalent).

Being world class gas engineer with my publications in America's very top places in annual International conferences, I can tell you what this pipeline will be in capacity and propensity. This pipe line will transport 1.5- 2 trillion cubic feet of gas per year or equivalent to 0.75- 1.0 mbpd oil use capacity. This will double Syria's energy use basket or even more and boost Iran's gas refining from 5-6 tcfy to 8 TCF per year.

Iran has gathering fields completed to position this gas to India- Pakistan under IPI and later less ambitious IP project for Pakista. The gathering systems infrastructure is there in place for the past 6 years. If India and Pakistan piss around on gas intake for their very badly shaped energy starved economies, Syria could become as big user of gas as Saudi Arabia(with about 2 tcfpy gas use for Saudi Arabia).Iran would surpass Canada in gas production with this project and be the largest gas producer after America and Russia(both producing 22 tcfy gas per year).Iran could produce 10 cfpy gas if India and Pakistan come back as they planned.

Qatar's gas, due to geography and many other reasons is not pipelie specific, and is rather 3 times more expensive LNG specific as LNG produced at -181 degree C costs way too much to refine the same amount of gas compared to amines purification for gas pipe line feed.

Gas use is catching up with oil with relatively more incremental gas reserves and peak oil state of crude oil world wide.Gas use, currently at 75 percent of oil use energy wise globally could easily surpass oil use in less than 2 decades.

I think with Russian and Chinese support in the backing, some mega gas flow project is shaping up in Iran - Syria domain in middle East.

With a bit of correction on one set of numbers, my letter should read as such:

CORRECTION TO 10 TCFY.
