that was the one that it rained, and everybody got stuck in the mud (Byron) I think the Allman bros got their start there, or close to that time...Early July, as I recall. I was working in Macon at the time, it was big news, since Byron was only 30 miles away. Were you a ponytailed hippie?
First and only time i dropped acid, just had kinda long hair....i recall being on TV news playing trick frisbee with beach friends....skinny dipping with hundreds in some creek...i swam underwater under a little bridge and grabbed a shotgun, buried in the mud(State Police were right there and took it)....recall stareing at my hand for hours, as Mississippi Queen played in the backround....4th of July timeframe, as i remember.....It was fun and we all survived....Dropped my friend off at his dad's condo in Orlando, and he was still trippy, eye's like saucers.....Learned years later, my cousin was like 75 yards from us, the whole festival...lol...Now, wife and i collect antiques and there is a Big Peach Antique Mall at the I-75, Byron exit......You shoulda come, man.....events like that just don't happen anymore.....still shocked, our generation of politician's sold out to lobbyists and never legalized pot...lol...

I think pot is now legal in a couple states, Col and Oregon? I wonder if pot stores on the state lines will do a big biz like liquor stores used to do right next to dry counties? Geez, now I got that silly Mississippi Queen song stuck in my head, thanks. At the time the Byron fest was going on, I was actually in the hospital in Macon, recovering from nose surgery, deviated septum, the old doc was kinda shaky and I think he botched my nose job. had to have it re-fixed a few years later. Was Janis Joplin at that event? I was in love with her at one time, until she got fat, drunk and dead. About the same time she died, Jimi and Jim also died, 3 big stars close together, it kinda ended the innocence of the 60's, at least for me.

It was so long ago, i seem to remember mostly like, Rubenesque naked chicks and guys with gallon jugs of wine, saying try this(should'nt)...i recall the Youngblood's playing, Darkness, Darkness....because i had family in Vietnam and that song still makes me cry....i remember we were lucky as hell to hitchhike and catch a ride there and back in one shot....i remember in the middle of the night, a black guy that owned a gas station, pulling a shotgun and saying, No Hippies, No Hippies....seems he'd had a bad experience...lol...it seem's they closed I-75 for awhile, eh?
