This is exactly how progressives work. They make their move when times are hard and many folks are struggling to make ends meet. It is easy to get them to only see what is right in front of their noses...then offer the pie in the sky solution to their needs. But, this time it backfired. The American citizen, struggling or not, is more informed today than ever.
Barack Hussein Obama is the worst person to ever sit his ass in the oval office. He has bombarded us with everything from liberal idealogy to racism. This is a pukey situation.

You are only right in one respect...LBJ did push the Civil Rights Act. But, he did so to continue JFK's policy plan. The beginning of the erosion of the Democratic Party by liberals was the election of JFK. And the final blow was the election of Jimmy Carter.
Now, with all that said, the Civil Rights Act was long overdue. But, the northern liberals made sure to make its focus upon the southern states by including that in the act. If they had not done so the act would have gotten more southern support. Later, we saw some of the nastiest integration battles fought in northern cities.
A plain and simple wording that named every state would have been more acceptable to all.

"SUPPORTING YOUR OWN CHILDREN FOR 4 +
DECADES" .with civil rights there should be CIVIL RESPONSIBILITY. if gvt was really concerned with ,health care IIT WOULD HAVE BEEN AVAILIABLE for all. EQUALLY . that which benefits some does not benefit all

People forget that when the federal government decides to give anything to any group of people, they must first take it from another group. They have found other ways....print more money or borrow it from another country and promise that our children will pay it back. It always works out that those who work pay the bill for those who don't. What's wrong with that picture?
Anyone who gets welfare of any kind should have to declare everything they own. If they use tobacco or drink acoholic beverages the cost of those should be deducted from the welfare check. If they can buy a new car or TV or have high end sattelite or internet service they can afford what the welfare check pays. Somehow, many who are on welfare think that they have a right or deserve to have everything those who pay their own way have. And they believe that the "government" should pay for it. What is wrong with that picture?

Geico should get involved in health care coverage for the average american folk! its affordable, and a superb insurance provider!
The Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) is an auto insurance company. GEICO (pronounced /ˈɡa&#61 8;koʊ/) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway that as of 2007 provided coverage for more than 10 million motor vehicles owned by more than 9 million policy holders. GEICO writes private passenger automobile insurance in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Rather than relying on agents to sell policies, GEICO uses a direct-to-consumer sales model and puts funds saved from not paying agent commissions toward the purchase of television advertising, with several campaigns running simultaneously in national markets. Its mascot is a gecko with a Cockney accent.
