Health care ruling will affect us all

Winners and losers are the natural consequence of the American legal system. In the Supreme Court, five majority votes among the nine members are enough to fundamentally change lives and legacies.

We're all losers as a result of the American political and legal system. Particularly today's Supreme Court, which seemingly swings back and forth between liberal and Conservative, with a mix of members who take opposing sides and bitterly contest ruling after ruling, most of them bad.

We need some more bipartisan way to appoint justices.

You Like That YA CRAZY LOONY HARVEY!....Here is my Doctor from Medicaid...

Doctor Henny Youngman, from OBAMA HEALTH CARE!!.....

Doctor Doctor I cannot Pee,Doctor,How Old Are You,Me I'm 80 now,Doc.YA PEEDED ENOUGH!

A doctor gave a man six months to live. The man couldn't pay his bill, so he gave him another six months.

My doctor grabbed me by the wallet and said, "Cough!"

The Doctor called Mrs. Cohen saying, "Mrs. Cohen, your check came back." Mrs. Cohen answered, "So did my arthritis!"

The Doctor says, "You'll live to be 60!" "I AM 60!" "See, what did I tell you?"

A doctor says to a man, "You want to improve your love life? You need to get some exercise. Run ten miles a day." Two weeks later, the man called the doctor. The doctor says, "How is your love life since you have been running?" "I don't know, I'm 140 miles away!"

The patient says, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Then don't do that!"

The doctor says to the patient, "Take your clothes off and stick your tongue out the window". "What will that do?" asks the patient. The doctor says, "I'm mad at my neighbor!"

A doctor has a stethoscope up to a man's chest. The man asks, "Doc, how do I stand?" The doctor says, "That's what puzzles me!"

"Doctor, my leg hurts. What can I do?" The doctor says, "Limp!"

Doctor says to a man, "You're pregnant!" The man says, "How does a man get pregnant?" The doctor says, "The usual way - a little wine, a little dinner...."

A man goes to a psychiatrist. "Nobody listens to me!" The doctor says, "Next!"

A man goes to a psychiatrist. The doctor says, "You're crazy" The man says, "I want a second opinion!" "Okay, you're ugly too!"

"Doctor, I have a ringing in my ears." "Don't answer!"

Nurse: "Doctor, the man you just gave a clean bill of health to dropped dead right as he was leaving the office". Doctor: "Turn him around, make it look like he was walking in."

I know a guy who had his doctor say, "Take some weight off, go to a health club." The man lost 20 pounds in one week! The machine tore his leg off!

It they don't require people to buy medical insurance, then we taxpayers are forced to pay for their treatment when the idiots wind up in hospitals!!

Umm, actually hospitals provide the care and spread the costs out to the insurance companies through increased costs on other peoples' bills...

Not necessarily true, a recent story dispells the misnomer that non emergency care is not covered when you walk into the emergency room. And in many case you cannot bill medicare or medicade after the fact, you need these programs going in. And because of the ACA there are options some incentivized by the act others mandated.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/07/opinion/carroll...

http://articles.philly.com/2012-06-11/busines...

The main problem is COST and not who will pay for it. With a health care system based on third party reimbursements you will continue to see excessive medical bills with or without insurance. The health provider industry has become addicted to third party reimbursements like junkies on crack. They are like a legacy worker in company who's time has come and gone yet fighting to keep their job and pay from a different era. You'll never get accurate accounting or full disclosure of the cost of medical care. There are two many HOSPITALS in particular that do not want to let go of the old insurance based system because they got used to gouging the patients and public for the monstrocities they can a medical bureaucracy. The insurance providers are no help scalping the public AND frequently in cahoots with the providers.

It is the COST: what, why and how much was billed, NOT WHO will pay.

They do. Hospitals aren't required to treat everyone who shows up, but many do. But since someone has to pay, that cost is spread out over all their insured patients.

You DO know we have a for-profit, private-insurance-based healthcare system, right?:)

"The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)[1] is a U.S. Act of Congress passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). It requires hospitals to provide care to anyone needing emergency healthcare treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions. Participating hospitals may only transfer or discharge patients needing emergency treatment under their own informed consent, after stabilization, or when their condition requires transfer to a hospital better equipped to administer the treatment.[1]
EMTALA applies to "participating hospitals." The statute defines "participating hospitals" as those that accept payment from the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Medicare program.[2] However, in practical terms, EMTALA applies to virtually all hospitals in the U.S., with the exception of the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Indian Health Service hospitals, and Veterans Affairs hospitals.[citation needed] The combined payments of Medicare and Medicaid,$602 billion in 2004,[3] or roughly 44% of all medical expenditures in the U.S., make not participating in EMTALA impractical for nearly all hospitals. EMTALA's provisions apply to all patients, and not just to Medicare patients.[4][5]"

We pay EITHER WAY.

Either we pat for their health insurance (cause they can't afford it) OR we pay when they get sick (and REALLY can't afford it).

I think I'd rather pay for ONE sick person, than 100 insurance policies that don't get used.

It's the insurance companies that will come out like BANDITS. <though they ALREADY DO>

PS.

Prior to the Emergency Medical Treatment Act of 1986, you either had to have proof of insurance OR a major credit card to be guaranteed treatment.

Since that time, insurance rates and healthcare costs have SKYROCKETED.
