I only say tasers and mace because of cost and is something that could be deployed in schools with in days. You could even train teachers and staff on the use of mace. Again for emergency use only with paper work.
Although no match for gun it is basically close quarter combat so if you get the drop on the gunman or even divert him for someone else to use their taser or mace it might help. Actually in this scnerios I like mace better because the fumes could affect them without a direct hit.
Armed gaurd is optimum.
Yeah, and what about those "fumes", do they just affect the attacker(s)? Nope, you get it on yourself too, and that's bad. You get it on the kids as well, and you already have a tough task where they are concerned. Why make it worse by them not listening to guidance and instructions because they have burning eyes and noses? They will not listen then, they will focus on the burning in their eyes and start screaming and stamping their feet to the pain.

I also reject your premise that it would not take much time to bring in tazers. So? Big deal. Many of those adults already have weapons at home, and it takes only the time it takes to drive to school to get them there. Firearms training? Simple to do really, and does not take any longer than to train someone how to use a tazer safely and effectively.

Yes, meeting firepower with like firepower, is the optimum.

Fumes from mace will leave collateral damage but your just trying to minimize any future attacks now. I look at it as it being easier to flush someone eyes and nose than it is to repair a bullet wound or bury someone. Long term yes armed guards. But what could the schools do today with a petty cash budget.

In this drama, the final words are, 'mother, look what I have done- you made me this way', and the weapon is raised to his own head.

If it is true, then his mother should never have left him alone at home with access to these weapons.

The bad 'program' should have been addressed and deleted.
