Is an Arab Spring in the air for Algeria?

Feb 15, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Public Broadcasting Atlanta

When Moncef Marzouki, a former dissident transformed by the "Arab Spring" into Tunisia's president, paid an official visit to Algeria on Sunday, red and white Tunisian flags flew from lamp-posts in his honor.

It is not a case of people being "smarter" as you put it, but it's more down to

1. Past experience, plight for independence from France and " black decade" of the 90s and the peace that followed

2. Algerians as a general population do not want revolution but wish for reform..... As do most nations including the UK and USA

3. I also believe Libya is a grave example of revolution over reform and how this has unfortunately backfired - despite the honourable William Hague stating today that Libya's fight for freedom peace and justice has been a huge - success - in the eyes of the British Government, despite thousands dead, homes obliterated by NATO bombs, looting, lynchings and overall chaos

4. Finally.... Believe it or not it is not in the interest of Europe for Algeria to undergo an Arab Spring (a phrase which I actually detest) due to Arms deals, Gas and energy revenues

Let's see what happens and hope for further Growth and Reform

1-2-3 Viva lalgerie.
This is the Algerian Arab Spring.
For now we are glad that Tunisians got rid of benali. We are not too happy that the libyans were manipulated by an obscure force who took over the reign of power and assassinated Kadafi. That Egyptian revolution was killed by the Israelo-American lobby who support the military because of the palestinian occupation.
For now:
1-2-3 Viva lalgerie!!!

No one can predict the algerian people move towards the change which is inevitible , illusion is prevalent, touching every corner and the "Pouvoir" is not exception. lybian and syrian model is more likely to occur again in Algeria as all ingredients are present, standing with the authoritarian regime in this sensitive time is giving algerians a wrong message resulting in a very bad feeling, which could leads to a fatal explosion

it's all about the oil not the welfare of Muslim Arabs and Algeria happens to the biggest country in Africa and the 11th idol reserve in the world and second or third natural gas in the world so the brief demonstration which happened last year was done mainly by teenagers who were still wearing nappies in the nineties so they don't remember the curfew and the blood loss the nation as a whole had to go through so I say to the west and the Zionist to forget it and in my opinion they already know that it will not happen that is why Helery Clinton was in Algeria last week
Thx for the reply

No western government cares about the welfare of people in africa or the middle east, oil gas and natural resource are the only interest to the western governments

Look at what Mugabe is doing to his own people in Zimbabwe, why were the opposition not armed by NATO, why was there never any military, nato or UN intervention,

Believe me if they discovered oil in Zimbabwe they would all be there and Mugabe would be out......

Sad how people prioritise money and gain over human life

Totally agree with Ana what gets on my nerves is the fact that china and Russia are being labeled uncaring about human life and almost every about Israel gets vetoed by the states and no one says a thing,

Israeli lobby is huge in USA....... The zionist do not seem to have a regard for human life

Really I do not understand ANYBODY, Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindi, Sikh - the list can go on - who can deny a human being the right to live in peace...... Shame on them

And countries which supposedly call themselves democratic, law abiding peaceful nations which have invested in, capitalised and carried out war on other nations which have posed no direct threat - is disgraceful

Makes me angry when they quite dictators not having regard - but they are responsible for thousands of lives lost, maimed, damaged - whilst theirs many miles alway is safe, and they can turn off the violence by switching off the TV

Their objective is to destabilise any government which is not controlled by USA or Western policy

They are quite happy to oust any government which doesn't comply and replace with a hard line regime which has more disregard to freedom and human lives and they call that a revolution for the people

Libya a great example, Iraq and very sad result, Syria what is to come

I can't write about this anymore makes me so sad what is happening ......

Ya "Billal El Yemeni"... you have no clue about North Africa and the fact that you wrote and I quote you:"...the only arab country for us yemeni..." show that you are not a Yemeni but a sahyouni. Go down in a dark place and hang yourself.
