Alleged scam targets tourists in Bangkok.

BANGKOK - Travelers to Thailand have braved a variety of hazards in recent years but foreign governments are now warning about a new and different one: duty-free shopping at the airport.

Several European tourists say they were falsely accused of shoplifting at the Thai capital's main airport and some recount being taken to seedy motels where they were shaken down for thousands of dollars by a shady middleman.

A British couple paid the equivalent of $11,000 to secure their release five days after being accused of stealing a Givenchy wallet that was never found, say police, who along with airport authorities deny any wrongdoing.

u know why? cause this cockroach party (democrats) robbed the government from people. now they are government & what they do best is to cheat and harm red shirts. they said 2nd half of year will be better if red shirts don't interupt. it's like thieves who said Our income in the last 6 month this year will increase if police know to sleep at home.
they've done nothing since dec last year. they don't punish the yellow bunch PAD who seriously violated law (seizing airports in the south and 2 in capital) after years of street violence.
they now to protect PAD instead.
cockroach members visited PAD when the Kotex bunch seized government house from august till december. military is on their side so they let PAd stay and shi= all inside government house. condoms were found. & KotexPAD said they're educated bunch to fight with corruption. leader Sondhi Lim used his house paper to put in banks to take money to use, but managed to take out paper and put in another 10 banks. is he not corrupt?
what else? the corrupt court dissolved the party people vote for twice for what ever reason with no checking & no appropriate procedure. they moved the court to military base to avoid red shirts. dissolved and ban all top members if one member violate law.
if they do it with justice, the cockroach party was dissolved years ago.
who care/ they only punish the party from people. they never touch the party they have shared income with. they just sit, wear blackbelt and are told how to judge.
shame thailand --- the land of cheaters and snobs.
if with no help from the bloody corrupt constitutional court with 9 bloody judges who didn't get proper endorsement (cause they were appointed by corrupt military after coup 2006), the thai rak thai (thaksin's party) still have 370 members & no bloody hell can make Apisit become PM.
reality has been seen who cheats and who dont.

American Tourist,
"There' nothing great about Thailand"
What about your great country?
Fighting two wars illegally. Drugs rampant in the USA along with prostitution and corruption. Gun crime out of control.
Americans appear to be selfish, dishonest and greedy. No comprehensive medical cover, no job security.
What's great about the USA?

I am sorry on behalf of my fellow American. Narrow minded, perhaps.

I myself love Thailand. Beautiful country!

when economy becomes worse & drugs are back, people seem to cheat & rob more.
first azses who protested against thaksin were drug dealers, cause thaksin has strong ways to stop drugs.
drug dealers have connection with this abhisit government so u will never see this government does anything for read to stop drugs. drugs now can be bought in soi.
this government is not voted by the people & will never work for people. they work for themselves & their snob supporters aka conservative bkk elites & military. cockroach party is ganging up with most corrupted gangs & together they cheat & corrupt for the next election. their sufficiency projects they gave water coin vending machines at 300,000 baht when market price is 50,000 baht. 4 party members were out as found corrupted but big fish is safe. within their one month in seat, they donated rotten fish cans to flood victims. cause the factory bought dead cheap fish to can at 3 baht fund.
tell me in your class, does the number 2 who has less votes become class leader?
- in your own countries, does the party having less votes than the winning party become government?
- japan has democracy with Royal family too but they progress. because their military don't rob democracy from people. in thailand u have election, then military robs government, election again, military robs again... how many coups already? 17 ??? if government doesn't give military $$$ to buy their overpriced airplanes, guns & things, they'll rob government.
- u see how strong usa's military force but do they ever rob government like thai military?

I've lived in Thailand for almost 20-years and I agree with you. I'm packing up my things and moving as soon as possible.

I've had enough of being cheated with little or no recourse in this corrupt 3rd-world dictatorship. Foreigners here viewed by most Thais as merely a source of money & there's no end to the pitfalls that exist for a foreigner living here.

Many foreigners who come to Thailand either go home broke and/or in a box, victim of road carnage or the out-of-control murders with firearms. If you don't believe this statement, look at the statistics.

I have lived in this wonderful country for 25 years. I have seen most things and done the same. Having come from Canada, living here has opened my eyes as to how certain parts of the world live. Of all the countries I would wish to live in (and I have the pleasure of that choice), I would, and have picked Thailand.
People, culture, society, food, climate... the list goes on.

Every country has its problems, no such thing as a "perfect" country. For the people that don't like Thailand, simple just don't go there! I myself live in the US, but will be moving to Thailand to work. I chose this options and I am aware that there are issues over there. But tell me, what issues don't have here in the US?

Yes, but tell that to the people who have returned home in an urn or to the western women who have been raped. Sure, those things happen in every country in "relative" frequencies. Rapes, murders, traffic victims, etc happen with much more frequency in Thailand than in the US and European countries.

Before making unsubstantiated comments, please refer to the stats. Thailand ranked as #1 in homicides with firearms as per the 2002 UN crime study. Tihs type of information is surpressed by the thai gov't but Thailand still ended up with a very poor score relative to crime.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Gemini

You'll need every ounce of patience today because even the best-laid plans could go up in smoke under the Full Moon lunar eclipse. It seems that certain people are doing their best to throw spanners in the works, and the more annoyed you become the more they'll goad you still further. If there's dissent in the ranks about how to spend New Year's Eve, you may decide to go your own sweet way and prove that you're an individual in your own right. But try not to let any bad feelings mar the celebrations. Have a fantastic night!
