168 comments on the Asst. Fire Chief charged in a hit-and-run. This was clearly a violation of integrity and an expensive nuisance for the family whose cars were totaled.
However, how self-absorbed are we in this country that we can narrowly focus on that incident and barely take notice of ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND deaths resulting from the cyclone in Myanmar? Trust me, if we had lost even 1% of that population due to an earthquake in L.A., we'd be crying, screaming, and begging for help.
It's time for us to pull our heads out of our behinds. I'm guilty of it too because I feel the pull toward the mundane and trivial while major disasters are unfolding. It's only a matter of time before a natural disaster claims thousands of lives in our country. And why should anyone around the world care when they know that we were navel-gazing while the rest of the world suffered?
