James leads U.S. rout

Not that Canada wasn't already overmatched, but when the U.S. men's basketball team crunched its neighbors to the north by 55 points last week in the exhibition opener, the Americans did it without LeBron ...

Of course you would, you don't live here.

On the other hand, I live about 300 yards from Rice Creek and I think it is fantastic. Great job to everyone who helped to open this and thank you to those who understand the value of preserving natural areas for everyone to enjoy.

Hey Disgruntled Outstater - I hear McDonald's and Walmart are looking for your type. The only condition is that you have to leave your guns at home. Oh, and you should probably take your NRA stickers off the back of your pickup window too...

Parks and trees have nothing to do with it. Effort and attitude are everything. Just your one sentence is enough to reveal why you are out of work.

I'm still disappointed that they never put in the golf course on the Ramsey County Open Space north of County I. At least then they could make some money off of it while still allowing the trails they have now...

This is the first I've heard of this. Maybe the reason why there haven't been many users is because not many people know about it?

Twice it was stated that this is in the middle of the metro. I wasn't aware that New Brighton was the "middle of the metro", heh.

One additional little nitpick about the reporting. The Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant also produced ammunition during the Vietnam war. It wasn't just WWII.

Golf does not make economic sense right now.
Many courses are struggling to survive the overbuilding of the last golf boom.
For Rice Creek getting the land and getting the trails done has been a long long process that took many years of work. Ramsey County could have dropped the ball at any time over the last 10 years and lost the creek.
I am glad they had the commissioners and parks people to see this through.

I'd trust but verify that soil and groundwater contamination (organics, metals, radioactives) had been cleaned up before developing homes on this property.

The empty Army buildings provide a good historical reminder of what went on at this site during wartime. A museum or interpretive center might make a good addition.

soon-to-be-added to the Minnesota fish and bird species lists: the three-eyed carp and double-beaked warbler. Oh, and when you get home from a leisurely float down the creek, you can dangle your feet in the water and then use your toes for night lights later on!!!

I am all for it. We have some of the best parks and trails in the country for a metro area. Keep up the good work.

I'd agree with that. Some of those builds should be preserved. Minnesota's industrial contribution to WWII wasn't limited to the iron range.

SARAH - YOU NEED TO BROADEN YOUR NARROW VIEW. IF YOU CONSIDER THAT THE METRO AREA IS NOW LINDSTROM/ST. FRANCIS TO LAKEVILLE/HASTINGS AND HUDSON TO WACONIA THEN TO SAY THAT THE ARDEN HILLS LOCATION IS IN "THE MIDDLE OF THE METRO" IS NOT
WRONG.
DO US ALL HERE IN THE NORTH METRO A BIG FAVOR & STAY IN MURDERAPOLIS.

I CAN RELATE - I REMEMBER IN ABOUT 1980 I WAS A COURIER DRIVER & HAD TO DELIVER ON OCCASION TO THE ARSENAL. I NEVER WAS COMFORTABLE THERE - I THINK IT WAS THE GEIGER COUNTERS ALL OVER THE SHIPPING/RECEIVING AREA IS WHY.

Too bad the city/County don't open the entire complex and build a small downhill and cross-country ski area there. I know there may still be some contaminated areas, but what a fine parcel of land, if I say so myself.

As my good pal, Adam Sandler, would say, "Not too shabby."

Yeah ... and a sprawling Medtronic campus sits on top of where it used to reside.

Any community that is in Ramsey County qualifies as being 'in the middle of the metro'.

They have been working on that for, oh, only about two decades.
