Windows 7 Sales Up, But is it Really a Hit?

There are 2 comments on the LinuxWorld story from Nov 7, 2009, titled Windows 7 Sales Up, But is it Really a Hit?. In it, LinuxWorld reports that:

The numbers are in and Windows 7 sales are strong , but with lagging PC sales and increased competition from other operating systems, is Windows in trouble? Apple recently reported one of its best quarters ever, and interest is high in current and future products coming out of Cupertino.

To be honest with you, Linux is far away from being able to make windows fall, they are all doing their own distro in their corner, with updates every 24 hours that can take up to 100 megs... and the fact that the big names like Photoshop, Itunes and others don't work (even in Wine it is a mess)...(even if I am using jolicloud in dual boot on my laptop).

But Apple on the other hand is getting a name with their computers, ipod, iphones... and with a Tablet PC around the corner I would say that they might hurt Microsoft very hard in the future...

In my opinion windows 7 is not a huge hit, it's an honest product but not a revolution...

The only reason anyone would buy win 7 is if its already is preinstalled or if it is because there is some reason stopping people returning to XP which is in my mind the only usable os at present which you can stil source software and drivers for and one of the few decent os their is bar 2k and 3.11 which is a bit dated now from microsoft. Tried linux ubuntu and although it looks reliable and stable enough, needs quite a bit of finishing off before people who like things to just work can treat it seriously. I understand that mint is probably the nearest to being able to "just work"
