good. those announcements are so annoying anyway. especially in the morning when it tells you "THIS IS THE TRAIN TO PENN STATION" 5 bajillion times, both after pulling out of a station, right as the train pulls in and the doors open, as well as periodically throughout the ride. ANNOYING!

IF GPS stands for Global Positioning Systems, isn't GPS Systems redundant?

Let's see, the FAA wants to upgrade, and is presently testing, their entire air traffic control systems based on GPS controls for every plane and private plane to have in the future. Now, can anyone imagine someone throwing a "switch" on some other satellite(s) and causing havoc in the air based on GPS for nagivation?
im not crazy after all

last week at the merrick station, i heard announcements for wyandanch. When I asked others if they heard what I heard, most just responded that they weren't listening anyway. So I thought maybe I heard wrong, guess I was not crazy after all.

Wow, the LIRR must have spent 10’s of millions of $$$ for this system, which saves the 1 guy on the train from having to announce the next station. And the do-hicky crashes and the poor fellow has to make announcements again.
I say give the train crew a raise.

Perhaps LIRR can instruct the conductors to make station announcements and just throw out this technology, which has proven to be
too complex for the LIRR.

Seriously, though - this is why people laugh when someone tries to shove down our throats a pie-in-the-sky idea such as Moynihan Station.

Sure, I want to see something more attractive than the underground rabbot warren many of us have to navigate each day (the current Pennsylvania Station). But more important is that the basics of service are all covered - clean, un-"broken" trains reaching our stations on time, and getting us to our destination on time. The rail systems still have A LOT of work to do on that, and a gorgeous new platform extension won't do the trick.

Speaking of misidentifying - why am I listed here as being in Freeport when I am in Rockville Centre? Maybe I have to check with my ISP provider. ;)
