There are a few semiconductor companies out there working on higher frequency, temperature and lower on resistance losses. CREE is one that manufactures the CMF20120D MOSFET and the power MOSFET CAS100H12AM1, that can be used for relatively high power output inverters with higher DC to AC yield. Since these SiC based devices can run at higher temperatures than the old silicon based transistors, you can do away with a lot of needed cooling. When you get the parts count down and the reliability up of an inverter, then you can use them in many products that use the straight on/off control of a motor to do some kind of work. Home air conditioning units,heating furnace units. Things like refrigerators and washer and dryer units could benefit from high temperature inverter drives designed into the unit operation. Large industrial applications like machine drive motors, pumps, conveyors, elevators could also benefit from a drive made with these high temperature components.
