While I somewhat respect Ed for walking the walk and going to jail due to his actions (unlike BECKY and Robert who are conveniently never around when the police show up), I can't help but think "What a moron!".

What was he thinking??

Yes he has earned a tiny bit of credit for having the sack to make a stand for his beliefs,(Unlike Kahn-job & Whackjob, who always sacrifice other people), you do have to wonder what the (alleged) "reasoning" was behind the choice to back "Commander X".

First, Peace Camp 2010 was a protest against the SLEEPING BAN, which is the portion of the camping ordinance which bans the act of sleeping each night. PC2010 also officially opposed the BLANKET BAN which forbids the use of a blanket each night between 11PM and 8:30AM. But of course the SENTINEL has a long-standing policy of failing to properly report our issues. The DDOS event did not damage any county computers and doesn't qualify as a "hack" since no confidential files were accessed or altered. Finally, the Federal court initially requested the $30,000 bail but failed to order it at the time of the hearing, so it is in question whether Ed Frey "owes" anyone this money.

BJ, your understanding of the definition of "hack" is as sketchy as your understanding of the definition of "breaking and entering". As most people know, a person can be convicted of "breaking and entering" by entering a building or space even if they did so through an unlocked door. It is related more to the unauthorized entry than it is to whatever physical method is used to gain access.

"Hacking" is defined as using one's skill in computer programming to gain illegal or unauthorized access to a file or network. It is not dependent on confidential information being accessed or damaging a computer.

What a wonderful word you must live in...one where you get to create your own definitions for common and established terms. It reminds me of how you crowned yourself a "National Merit Scholar" despite a published and accepted criteria established by the awarding organization that indicates to the contrary.

ANOTHER VOICE WRITES: ""Hacking" is defined as using one's skill in computer programming to gain illegal or unauthorized access to a file or network."

BECKY: And Chris Doyon didn't do this. All files accessed were public files. A DDOS event is more like sending so many people to an open door that a line forms. how is THAT a crime?

Was he authorized to access the server (which is a part of a network) using the technique he chose (i.e., using his skill in computer programming to provoke a DDOS)?

Pancakes neither possess the computer knowledge nor intelligence to comprehend what Doyon. If she hasn't been able to figure out that her addiction to her, bong, box of Ripple and Chiffon pies have been instrumental in her failure to secure a career, be physically healthy and coherent.

PS: BJ, marijuana does NOT help you lose weight. Look in a mirror!

No, a DDOS attack is more like sending so many people to an open door that nobody else may use the door. It is an unlawful prevention of use.

It's thuggish and oppressive behavior.

You should have picked a more responsible Bumfest2010 ambassador.

I sort of feel sorry for Ed but what was he thinking.

Hey, I know - maybe Pancakes and Robert Norris Kahn can help Ed defray his expenses.

So let's hear it BJ: Why is it OK to maliciously gridlock the County's computer network, but call in the FBI about a Pear in a tailpipe?

"A distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. These systems are compromised by attackers using a variety of methods." Which usually leads to the server/network going down or slows it down just enough to break into the system get what you want and get out.

This is an illegal use of a computer full stop, I myself as a ethical hacker would prefer if people would stop doing this, yes he stands up for what he beleives in but it causes mayhem for other people to deal with everyone has a right for their own beliefs so what's the problem with everyone just living in peace, oh I forgot human nature is self destructive and will always be that way ain't we F**K*D!!

If Doyon is arrested and returned to SC, will Ed Frey represent him? Rhetorical question since we all know Ed doesn't learn from his past mistakes.

"how is THAT a crime?"

Because it's in violation of a Federal statute, that's how.
