This just happened to me as well and getting Microsoft to cancel my account has been like turning the Titanic! Did you ever reolve this issue and get your account closed? If so, please advise ... thanks a lot.

I feel totally violated. My email address has been hacked. I cannot access it and cannot change the password. My password no longer works and everyone in my address book received the very email noted in the post by 'scammed'. I have notified MSN but as of yet have heard nothing. I need to access my account as my entire address book is in there and I am afraid of what my relatives and friends who I have been unable to contact are thinking right now. Oh man. This is such a mess.

"SINDY" by the way there is no such thing as PYSCHOLOGIC degree, only Psychology degree.

I have told you you don't need a degree before you know that these things are scams...

"SINDY" I would like to take this opportunity to tell you to "GET OVER IT.......... COZ I HAVE, really its getting boring".

Yup, this is a particularly nasty scam. Just got one from a friends e-mail address, the scammers guessed her hotmail password and accessed her address book. Here's the current version:

I will appreciate whatever you can afford to assist me with, I'll Refund the money back to you as soon as i return, let me know if you can be of any help?

Thanks

The scam is still making the rounds as I recieved one from a "friend" just hours ago. I immediately became suspicious and Googled the organization. It led me to this forum and some answers. I appreciated the information you provided.

My mother just received a similar e-mail scam today from one of her friends' e-mail acocunts that had been hacked (apparently).

The title was 'HELP Please' and the body of the e-mail contained:

"Hello,

How are you doing?hope all is well with you and family,I am sorry I didn't inform you about my traveling to England for a Seminar..

I need a favor from you because I misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel where my money, and other valuable things were kept I will like you to assist me with a soft loan urgently with the sum of $2,500 US Dollars to sort-out my hotel bills and get myself back home.

I will appreciate whatever you can afford and i'll pay you back as soon as I return,Kindly let me know if you can be of help? so that I can send you the Details to use when sending the money through western union.

Thanks"

I believe they looked through her past correspondence and saw she had attended a genealogy seminar with that friend and said she was traveling to England for "a seminar" instead. Quite obviously a scam. The letter is recycled, is barely coherent in parts and makes no personal references. She just called the friend's work and she was there.

This one is still alive. I am glad I spent five minutes and did a little "investigation" on the web.

This is the e-mail I got:

I am in a hurry writing you this message, i don't have much time on the pc here, so i have to brief you my present situation which requires your urgent response. Actually, I had a trip to Malaysia for a program called "Empowering Youth to Fight Racism, HIV/AIDS, Poverty and Lack of Education, the program is taking place in three major countries in Asia which are Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. But unfortunately for me, my little bag where my money, passport, document's and other valuable things got stolen at the hotel where i lodged due to a robbery incident that happened in the hotel. I have been so restless since last night, the present condition that i found myself is very hard for me to explain, I am really stranded here because i have been without any money, i am even owing the hotel here as well, moreover the Hotel's telephone lines here got disconnected by the robbers and they are trying to get them fixed back. I have access to only emails at the library because they also took my cell phone which i have all my contacts. I am now owing a hotel bill of $1,200 and they wanted me to pay the bill soon. I need this help from you urgently to help me back home, I need you to help me with the hotel bill and i will also need $1,500 to feed and help myself back home. So please can you help me with a sum of $2,700 USD to sort out my problems here. I am sending you this email from the city Library, I will appreciate what so ever you can afford to send me for now and I promise to pay back your money as soon as i return home. So please use the details below to send the money to me through Western Union money transfer because that is the only way i could be able to get it fast and leave. These are the details below....

Name: xxxxxxxxx
Address: 29B Jalan Loke Yew, Bandar Melaka, Malaysia

After you have send the money, email to me the western union money transfer control number or you can attach and forward to me the western union money transfer receipt so that i can pick up the money fast and leave.

Thanks and get back to me soon.

Regards,
Jen

today i was unable to get into my email account (hotmail/incredimail) only to learn that it had been hacked into and emails had been sent to entries in my address book. these emails were asking for money for help a friend (supposedly me). i have had several calls from out of state from acquantenances who were concerned.

My question is, what do i need to do now? do i have to open another email account or will this one become available to me soon?

Do i need to report this to anyone in authority?
