I have been really interested in pursuing these things since before I moved down here. Not with that bullshlt bowfishing crap either. Rod and reel. I don't have a boat though, and not being local I have absolutely no clue where to go to shore fish for them on public land with any chance of success.

There used to be shitloads of them at the Wappapello spillway outlet; I've seen 4+ footers around those big concrete squares that diffuse the flow. Dunno if the area is open for fishing, though.

You get a lot of them snagging at the Spillway. We were up there one night when Tyler Goodale caught a 6 footer. It was huge.. a whole mouthfull of quarter inch teeth. Snaggin season is over though, you catch more than your share by rod and reel up there too. A lot of people don't like them and just leave them on the bank to die, which I think is kind of wrong. We've been up there fishing for the past 2 days. You ought to go up there and give it a shot. They'll bite anything that moves, you don't hafta hook them either, once they bite they don't let go.. lol

Come on guys, do you really have to use that language on this site? Not with that bowfishing crap would have sounded just as good. Also. There used to be truck loads of them at Wappapello spillway would have gotten your point across.
Thanks guys.

Well old timer, times have changed. Used to be that a black man couldn't look at a white woman without getting lynched, and shlt was a bad word. Now you can't go lynching people, and shlt is perfectly acceptable language for an adult.

I went to school with that cat. He was always quite the angler. It's actually all he ever really talked about or thought about.

So... Do you have anything relevant to add to the discussion, or do you just seek to control language the site deems unnecessary to censor?

Lynching has always been illegal as well as morally wrong but some people did it any way. Cursing in a public forum while not necessarly illegal is in bad taste regardless of how many people do it. The moral is that just because a large number of people do something does in no way make it the right thing to do. It's a shame you don't already know this.

No I don't have anything relevant to add to the discussion of fishing for gar. Hopefully in the future when you go to type in this forum you will at least remember us oldtimers who read it, and youngtimers you may be having an influence on.

Hope you catch a bunch of bigguns.

I used to have a friend that would tie fishing line around their snouts and throw them back so they couldn't eat and then they would starve. I think that's so wrong. He always said when the gar are around, the catfish aren't biting.

IMO, thats not a good reason to torture them. They are prehistoric creatures and I think they deserve the respect of any other creature out there.

Daily Horoscope for December 18

Cancer

You'll be happiest when you're with people who make you feel loved and cherished. You'll bend over backwards to keep them sweet, and will concede arguments and disputes for the sake of peace. Try not to make it peace at any price because that could be setting up problems with people who will then try to take advantage of your good nature. Co-operation is one thing, being a doormat is quite different.
