Funerals - the Final Frontier: Casket Maker licenses Star Trek products

Eternal Image says they design "Brand name funerary products that celebrate the passions of life," and those passions apparently include Star Trek. Today they announced an agreement to design, manufacture and market a line of Star Trek branded funeral products.

Oh my. Sorry, going for cremation so I won't be shuffled around when developers need to build housing. That kind of funeral ought to pull someones cord in the family. Kinda cool, too.

The casket looks kind of cool. Everything is being updated these days. Like a Blackberry, everything changes. How would morbidly obese people fit in one of those things? Maybe they make small, medium, large and XL. Either way, I bet they're lighter in weight, more airtight and would rot a lot more slowly than wooden caskets. In the 1800s, many caskets were made body shaped out of cheap pinewood, with no satin on the inside. I've been to a lot of funerals and have never seen anything like what is pictured in the full story article. Is it environmentally safe, like wood? The wood does seem intact when bodies are exumed for autopsy testing.
All in all, the coffins are cool, but Trekies need psychological help. New designs in coffins are one thing, but living like a fictional, futuristic TV show is quite another thing. Most of them are creeps from way back. Get a life Trekies!!!

Well, that's not necessarily a casket they will use. It's an example of what they might use. It's the photon torpedo / casket used for Spock in Star Trek II, as the article indicates.
