Full story: Memphis Commercial Appeal

Seven months after being rebuffed by state lawmakers, environmentalists have stepped up their criticism of a program that allows the dumping of low-level radioactive wastes in some Tennessee landfills, including two in Shelby County.

I don't want to drink anything radioactive. If it goes into landfills it will eventually get into the water. What will we do then?

There is radioactivity in your water now!
Natural deposits in the soil provide radium and Tritium as well as the cosmic production of Be-7 which is water soluable.

.
But, but,... that is good, nice, natural radiation.
.
Not like your evil bad radiation from your very evil and bad, no-good, nuclear powerplants.

There is radioactivity in your water now and you should want more radioactivity in your water for your health's sake. There is very little danger of getting too much radioactivity in your water. It certainly won't come from nuclear power plants.

Fracking should be banned. Saudi Arabia should be declared a terrorist state. The House of Saud should be dragged in front of ICC in shackles.

Oh, well, one can dream?

The dose from such landfills will never get as high as the natural dose from drinking water. Therefor, the radiation levels in drinking water will not become high enough to cause much improvememt in your health.

Well, the BEIR committee of the NAS would really love to see your evidence on safety.
.
Of all modern pollutants (think petrochemicals, industrial dust, ozone) radiation is the only one which may be beneficial in small doses.
.
As for "good" as benefits are obviously much, much bigger than the costs, it is "good". 1 million US$ electricity per day per reactor - that's an enormous benefit.

Now, if the ultimate "good" is the Oil Barons' bottom line, then yes, radiation is no good.'Cause each working nuclear reactor costs the petroleum industry 5-10 million US$ per day. If my comfort (or moreso livelihood) would depend on grossly overpriced petroleum, I'd be out there yelling about eveel ray-dee-shun, too.

Eat? What? Why??
.
Some oral fixation you have there, sugar! Seems a common liberal deviant obsession (not that conservatives don't have deviant inclinations).
.
But to your point, I'd rather that than snort 1 gallon of coal soot (still the most potent carcinogen known to mankind) and dish out 4 US$ for a gallon of mediocre gasoline.
