Droughts, melting ice caps and glaciers, rising sea levels and mass extinctions will all be a reality unless the U.S. and the world cut back on carbon emissions dramatically, said James Hansen, director of ...

If you want to act on climate change, tell scientists you want to see experiments that show a change in global climate temperature. Then wait.

According to radiative physics and decades of laboratory measurements, increased CO2 in the atmosphere is expected to absorb more infrared radiation as it escapes back out to space. In 1970, NASA launched the IRIS satellite measuring infrared spectra. In 1996, the Japanese Space Agency launched the IMG satellite which recorded similar observations. Both sets of data were compared to discern any changes in outgoing radiation over the 26 year period (Harries 2001). What they found was a drop in outgoing radiation at the wavelength bands that greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane (CH4) absorb energy. The change in outgoing radiation was consistent with theoretical expectations. Thus the paper found "direct experimental evidence for a significant increase in the Earth's greenhouse effect". This result has been confirmed by subsequent papers using data from later satellites (Griggs 2004, Chen 2007).

Fair Game gave us an incomplete quote, the sentence about 'experimental evidence' concludes: "that is consistent with concerns over radiative forcing of climate." So, the experiment isn't on climate change mitigation, it's on light spectra. I've never claimed light spectrum hasn't been experimentally measured; my argument is about the lack of experiments for climate change mitigation.

More useless diarrhea from the "pinheadlitesout".
Get that issue and your diaper rash solved and maybe your allergies will be cured. Try to stop sticking your head up spacedoutblues behind and that may help as well.

A full quote and a citation for my post above:
The evolution of the Earth's climate has been extensively studied1, 2, and a strong link between increases in surface temperatures and greenhouse gases has been established3, 4. But this relationship is complicated by several feedback processes—most importantly the hydrological cycle—that are not well understood5, 6, 7. Changes in the Earth's greenhouse effect can be detected from variations in the spectrum of outgoing longwave radiation8, 9, 10, which is a measure of how the Earth cools to space and carries the imprint of the gases that are responsible for the greenhouse effect11, 12, 13. Here we analyse the difference between the spectra of the outgoing longwave radiation of the Earth as measured by orbiting spacecraft in 1970 and 1997. We find differences in the spectra that point to long-term changes in atmospheric CH4, CO2 and O3 as well as CFC-11 and CFC-12. Our results provide direct experimental evidence for a significant increase in the Earth's greenhouse effect that is consistent with concerns over radiative forcing of climate.

I know that you are a little slow but try to get your mind around this! If increased CO2 and CH4 cause less IR to escape the atmosphere, then decreasing the amount of CO2 and other GHG's will increase the radiation to space thus causing a cooling effect. What is so hard about understanding that? BTW, the IR in consideration is not in the light spectrum. It is not visible to the human eye.

That experimental test is on light spectra, not global temperature. It isn't an experiment on climate change mitigation or on man made greenhouse gas's effect on climate.

Coincidence isn't causality.

Since "brian_g stumble butt dumpster diver" has no advanced mathematics or science degrees & no upper class science, chemistry, astronomy, physics, algebra or pre-calc for its poorly earned hi skule DEE-plooomaa, it uses the term,'light spectra' which is ambiguous, & done purposefully to confuse the issue that Patriot AKA Bozo had clearly stated.

But that's OK. I like "brian_g stumble butt dumpster diver" to remain as stupid as it chose to be, by not taking math & science in school & failing to get any science & mathematics degrees.

NONSENSE.

You constantly and continuously reject what you don't understand. What a guy like you doing in the middle of science?

P.S. I know you are free to do so. But for years and years? You must be a simple robot-typist. You certainly don't possess any science understanding.

You have no idea what those words mean and I don't either.

I know what all those words mean, do you have a problem with the transitive verb,'hype'?

Definition of HYPE

1: put on, deceive

2: to promote or publicize extravagantly <hyping this fall's TV lineup>

If you cite a compelling experimental test of climate change mitigation, I'll stop posting.
