Don't think I'll fly on a plane made under Brazilian specifications even if Americans made it.

I don't think I would want to fly on an American-made plane.

It's probably about as reliable as my American-made car, which is why I have to depend on my Japanese-made motorcycle to get around town.

They have good planes - and it's a good company....this is great news....Viva Brazil! Thank you for believing in America! We will do our best to ensure your long-term success! Don't listen to these fools who will believe "USA All The Way" until the U.A.W. winds up running this country straight into the ground. Go to Michigan...to Detroit...the Ghetto...look around...see what the unions and the "USA All The Way" crowd has accomplished - it's pathetic!(It's..It's ...The Republicans Fault!(sarcasm intended))

Nope, sorry, didn't you hear Honda has closed the Maryville, OH motorcycle plant? Not just the components, but also the assembly of my bikes is in Japan.

And no, I wouldn't own any of those cars/trucks, either. I almost bought a Honda Element, but it's made in the USA too. Oh well.

Then, we pay the FRENCH $80 million for each new KC45 (Airbus) Tanker. Go Figure!

It isn't a Republican or Democrat issue. The loss of US manufacturing and technical jobs is an American issue, and it is traceable to a self-destructive tax policy.

I think I get it! The portugese come here and open a business to get grants, discounts, investments, tax breaks, etc. then after a year or two they move back to Brazil and outsource, keeping all the money they got from old uncle sam. They can max out their credit and probably not ever have to pay or do bankruptcy as long aas they stay in Brazil.

What does the KC-45 issue have to do with Embraer builing an assembly facility in Melbourne? The KC-45 airframe is still being built in France, isn't it.

Are we comparing a grape to a watermellon?

Even Embraer planes assembled in Brazil rely heavily on outsourced parts (much more so than their primary competitor Bombardier). Embraer has had large offices in South Florida - either Palm Beach or Broward - for ages so they already had a significant presence in Florida.

Don't equate airplanes with cars; American built airplanes continue to be far superior to anything made anywhere else. I have around 2,000 hours in nearly 30-year-old B-52s and 100 hours in Piper 140s and Cessna 172s. All these airplanes perform amazingly well long past their planned lifetimes.

The problem with American cars is poor design, lack of creativity and innovation, and greed. The fact that Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, et al, can build quality cars here is proof that the problem does not lie with American workers.

What gripes me about this story is that the largest percentage of the cost of the KC-45, the airframe, goes overseas. Another problem is that the KC-45's size will necessitate hundreds of $millions in facility modifications (the Boeing contender would have required no mods) which will limit the Air Force's flexibility in spending capital $s; that might mean doing ramp modifications instead of upgrading living quarters for the troops. Finally, the KC-45's cost dictates buying fewer airframes, automatically limiting force deployment options.

The Air Force is not Federal Express. Pentagon planners now expect to be able to project air strikes anywhere in the world from US bases.

Choosing the KC-45, regardless where it is finished (Remember, it is BUILT in France), was a bad idea that will come back to haunt our government!

Nice cut-and-paste from the Boeing talking points. FYI... Boeing cheating on the previous procurement was a bad idea that DID come back to haunt Boeing. Get over it.
