Should evolution be taught in high school?

Feb 24, 2008 | Posted by: Cash | Full story: www.scientificblogging.com

Microbiologist Carl Woese is well known as an iconoclast. At 79 years of age, Woese is still shaking things up. Most recently, he stated in an interview with Wired that...

"My feeling is that evolution shouldn't be taught at the lower grades. You don't teach quantum mechanics in the grade schools. One has to be quite educated to work with these concepts; what they pass on as evolution in high schools is nothing but repetitious tripe that teachers don't understand."

Do you really think the Internet has an off button
How would that work ?
Does a postal service that run globally sending letters around the world have a single off button
Rational answers only if you please
there is a machine named rupert
at washington dc
which will immediately shut down
the internet with that key code
of course you need the key
and you need access to the machine

No, I think you have it wrong -

The machine is called Kermit
It's in New York
The key code is 'hjsdjdjjddjdjdduiiejdjdjdjdjj djmadasahatterkfkkfkkkfkoirijm jfkf'
And you need a swipe card that is blue NOT RED (

Prove me wrong

As an aside are you a parody

whole sense of not trusting evolution theory.
many were arguing that evolution is just an unproven theory.
so gripe that its unproven that mankind was born from the earth.
some more slanderous material about western Christianity.

lightside said that it is unproven scientifically
that a million species should originate from one cell
i further think it lunacy
madness that there are no fewer then a handful of simple
celled creatures left in the natural selection process
to scientifically prove the theory one way or the next.
the rules are distinctly obvious though to a=the whole of science.
and too all scientists alike
and that is no objective evidence
no theory
lightside i think is also right that trying to prove
that the multi complexities of natural selection
can be thus simplified to incorporate
simple celled organisms into the equation for natural selection
but we do know however
that these organisms do exist
but as far as i am concerned however
all basic life forms as well as all simple celled creatures
are absolutely ruled out of natural selection
we can however posit new theories of evolution
Charles Darwin go us the ball rolling
thats all in what would seem a long
and laborious process of reductionism
through mindless theory after theory until one evolutionary theory comes to the whole of science that best explains the whole of nature
perhaps nature on Earth is too diversified for the truth
about natures genesis to ever be unravelled.

one person said from page 4
that genetics should be taught in schools.
Christ was a geneticist
Christ was also an evolutionary
he called his flock lambs
it turns out that Christians were indeed
lambs of the field as part of
the same natural selection process Charles Darwin
would herald as braking science many generations later
in time.
Or course lambs through goats into cows
and then into bulls
we see the Christian gladiators of the past
still today in the bull fights of southern spain.

reading these early blogs
is harder than i first thought
they are useless most of them
they say nothing at all
i think if you read my blogs from my profile
with out all the rubbish that is said about them
let alone the lunatic judges who ever they are
i am rather mindful of judging blogs
i expect the same level of courteousness.
someone called the Bible a book of fairy tails.
And that evolutionary theories were based
upon scientific evidence of fact.
sounds too familiar doesn't it.
religion in the proverbial doghouse
and science held pontifical and magnanimous
without a hint of the truth
the rubbish that is written for science
most doctorates are burnt after ten years
at the university archive
because they are unworthy of its space
its profound i know but this information
hits my brain at a tremendous rate and pulse
that most of the doctorates burnt are on science
now either their is a coup de tar
going on preventing the kiddies from
learning real science
or you believe like me that
most good exciting science is being plagiarised
and stolen as it is.
the archives are only so big i am told
it would seem madness to throw away good science
from whatsoever its source of enquiry.
but these matters are tackled with the best of
intentions to everyone concerned
you can just taste the sense of irony in all these words.
something has got to give as they say
i am glade that few people have grasped the wisdom
of being able to write an essay
under exam conditions.
more for those that can aye chumps.

mr reality said something very funny.
that when trying to do an einstein type thought experiment
in his head he couldn't possibly see
how you could get two Tyrannosaurus Rex's
on board a man made arc.
I find it funny the]at some scientists prefer
an literal teaching of Darwin's origin of species work.
is this not a form of cretinism
that has climbed all over well argued theoretical flaws
as they arise.

It seems to me if you did manage to get two
T-Rex's on a boat full of animals. The subtraction would begin immediately. Before not so very long , there would be two T-Rex's on a otherwise empty boat.

The United States equivalent of the Taliban. Those documents you mention are misrepresented or fraudulent. That is a FACT and needs to be said repeatedly.
The fact that the designed the United States as they did is ample evidence of there views on religion. Otherwise it would be just another dictatorial, theocracy. Our founding fathers were promoters of science, philosophy and free thought. They would have been advocates of the science and theory of evolution.
Lol..."they would have been advocates of the science and theory of evolution" ....does "endowed by our CREATOR ....life, liberty, pursuit of happiness" ring a bell?
No one in their right mind wants a theocracy! We want the right to bring faith into the public square. We do not want to take away your right to try to turn us all into atheists. You seem to see that as your main purpose in life.
We want to share our faith with anyone willing and wanting to know about it.
Why you see that as such a threat to your worldview amazes me.
Evolution does not threaten or offend most Believers (IMEO). Evolutionist attitudes and angry speech is often offensive.

dennis2 spoke about dating being out of sorts
with the timeline and that the dating therefore needed to be revamped
stand up for truth argued that both creation
and evolution are theories based of belief.
chemical dating was way off the mark M.A.D.
or mercury atomic dating is far better these days
from the mere guesswork that used to take place
in the laboratory.
Uses a method of refraction of atomic nuclei
which is then read into codexes using mercury.
it sounds too simple for words.
but is quick to perform
easy to get right first time
and easy to replicate throughout the experiment.

i agree that both creationism and evolution are theories
founded upon two sets of different empirical evidences
if you ever thought a priest can to by some way of his trade
rollup his or her sleeves and perform one of these experiments
then your are barking mad.
some do some don't
those that do could hardly be called scientists
now could they but when things get dirty
and lets face it it get no dirtier a business
than replacing virtuous Christian places at school with apes.
undermining traditional religious values
of morality and religious righteousness with science.
everywhere we see it
science being used to free the apes from slavery
then to give them equal rights as Christians
then to pretend that they are holier than thou
and that there covenants are sacrosanct.
i love science but all the religious know
that a great evil will become of it.
the answer is that more monks like me must get
involved in science and the governing of science.
ensuring that the science of the future is conducted ethically
as well as in the good cause and nature of things.
as i see it there is good science, bad science and evil science.
and it is a burden to the religious to make good science
for the good of the whole of the environment,
as well as the good of the whole of nature.

Would explain what you mean by your last two statements. I infer (maybe incorrectly), that you are frustrated with the incessant bickering on both sides of this issue.
I'm curious on where you stand on the supernatural...as in supernatural forces at work outside or beyond scientific explanation or evidence.

i an not bodily disabled anyhow?
i remember i had some rubbish playing in my ears
some rap musical of a sudden
i got the feeling that something good was going to happen
its like i can see through people
i can feel their heart
i felt good about the call
then i saw now inherent flash of light
just the image of a kneeling madonna
in front of me
kind of imaginary buy real it was
in that you cannot see the image clearly
but the Carthusians know this as well as i do
to see god you have to learn to see with your heart
it said no it wasn't the madonna
and then she told me that my Benediction would take place this december
i knew of this the other year when i was talking wing lengths
well most saints have quarter wings
some have half wings
some three quarter wings
few have absolute benediction into godhood
full length flying wings.
i felt slightly hesitant
what if the evil British muslim state was to murder me
before absolute benediction on december
then a surf board would be sent
another thing that i had only realised the other month.
many on line thought the surf board odd
when i released the news.
someone from the bbc said
i recall if i don't get mine sent to me then your dead.
she then quickly left as she arrived.
around 90 seconds the meetings duration
should anyone be still interested.
I saw the news today oh boy....four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire..

Grandiose delusions are most often based on having some special knowledge to which the general public is not privileged. This creates a feeling of importance or significance beyond the ordinary. Refutation of the delusional suppositions is met with resistance, denial, and rationalization. But, never with a rational explanation. Rationalizations mostly its of systemic incompetence of critics or conspiracies to suppress the truth.

Please, do take your medicine.

Perhaps you need to re-examine your own assumptions about the supposed marvellous precision of a protein sequence.
Take our old friend cytochrome-c. It is a short 100 base protein found in variations throughout living organisms. The first point is that its only 30% functional. The other 70% can be just about anything, and it will work the same. Even in the 30% that is functional, the critical sequences that cannot be altered without corrupting function are much shorter still. It has been estimated that 10^93 potential combinations would all work.
Add to this another fact...that of randomly constructed RNA sequences, around 10% were found to have some catalytic functionality. This tells us that hit and miss produces more hits than you might expect.
An inference from these facts is that complexity is often confused with precision. You see a protein, be it 100 bases or 1000, and assume its a unique marvel of infinitesimal probability, but miss the point that its not all that precise. It may have even started out far LESS precise but at least workable enough to provide a selectable benefit.
So, for example, the first version of a catalytic enzyme merely doubled a reaction speed, but that was enough, early on, to provide an advantage. Over several million years, chance variations increased that to 10x and then 100x, but the enzyme is still a far cry from what a unique, "designed" enzyme might have looked like from the start.
Thus in many cases the proteins in cells are not only incredibly complex, but far more complex and far less efficient, than they could have been, relying as they have on blind variation and occasional hit and miss selection rather than masterful design.
Or, goodbye Shakespeare, hello Michel Foucault(puke)!
We've been over that that before Chimney. Cytochrome-C is nothing but snake oil. You're a Snake Oil Salesman Chimney.
