Should evolution be taught in high school?

Feb 24, 2008 | Posted by: Cash | Full story: www.scientificblogging.com

Microbiologist Carl Woese is well known as an iconoclast. At 79 years of age, Woese is still shaking things up. Most recently, he stated in an interview with Wired that...

"My feeling is that evolution shouldn't be taught at the lower grades. You don't teach quantum mechanics in the grade schools. One has to be quite educated to work with these concepts; what they pass on as evolution in high schools is nothing but repetitious tripe that teachers don't understand."

By the way, because you treat your dogs with respect and understanding, they are content and respect your things.
What if you do all that stuff but you also have tackstrips in your carpet? Will they still respect their owners' things?

I've never heard of dogs digging holes in carpet.

Maybe this is just you hallucinating again.

Yes, I do simply treat my dogs with love and respect and think that really that's all there is to it because I never set aside time to train them or anything like that. They pretty much take care of themselves. I keep their food and water full at all times and it seems they only eat and drink sensibly and minimally. They keep themselves absolutely clean and healthy, they don't mess up anything in the house or the yard, they sleep quitely all night - but they sure let me know if a stranger is coming! Each time this happens, they take off like a bat out of hell barking and attacking like its the end of the world, and then when think its under control, they hurry back to let me know about it and then hurry back to continue until the threat has passed. If it's someone they've met before or know about they go watch but are calm about it. Man, are they great dogs! And yes, there are some worn paths in the bushes and grass where they tend to run the shortest distance to certain points at the fence. I don't see how they could be any better than they already are. I dread bringing them to the vet for the rabbies shot because it makes them very sick for a week or two. Heavy wheezing and diahrea. I think I'm going to return the notice card saying they are deceased this time be done with it.

It's most likely a rabid animal won't stumble into your yard, but if one did, t might be hard to tell if one or both were bitten, because of the fur, unless they are scratched or bitten on the face or blood is not licked off.
If you stop the shots, how will you deal with the uncertainty, if rabies shows up in your area, not just for their sakes, but yours as well.
Yes, like you, seeing what those shots do, I might do the same. However, if one needs a doctor, what then?
I'll tell the doctor about the reaction. Maybe there is a different shot for dogs that are known to be allergic to the shots.

Thanks. Most people don't believe me. Pedigree always. I have two large gravity feeders that hold about 20 pounds each. The Beagle is 8 and the Jack is 3 and neither one is overweight at all. Did I mention their massive bone collection?(beef rib bones!)

I don't know about pedigree, but now that you mention it, I'll look for such and compare, thanks.

Oh, is it wrong to address Jimbo's obvious psychological disorder? The guy's paranoid with delusions of grandeur. Should I not poke at that? Are you his guardian? If so, get him off the Intertubes, so he won't hurt himself or buy anything he shouldn't, or see porn.

A pet expert who doesn't know anything about Pedigree pet food, one of the largest national brands of pet foods? Isn't that like a mechanic saying, "yeah, ain't never seen one of these CHEV-RO-LET cars before, but I suppose I could figure it out!"

So if you agree that most of the greatest scientists of all time believed in what you call "bronze age goat herder" stories, wouldn't you want more regular people and certainly more scientists to belive in "bronze age goat herder stories"? I mean, if you like science and want to see progress that is.
But by today's standards, they would have a hard time passing a GED test, let alone a biology 101 exam.

No, I just thought I'd harass you with a foliage report. I think everyone should bring mom and the kids to your home town to see the Autumn colors.

Many so called pet experts make a great many claims, but tell us, how do these so called experts know and what do they do to make you confident that they know?
