you can do this with free software like privoxy, ghostery, notscripts or simply just block scripting. opera browser blocks certain images besides offers user script and styles which can be used to hide or block ads. i'm using a combination of these to achieve (almost) free-ad browsing experience, without paying a dime, except for the data plan - see, ain't i genius?
