NASA climate data indicates that the long-term global warming trend is continuing

Jan 22, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Scientific American

New measurements by NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies indicate that 2012 was the ninth warmest year since 1880, and that the past decade or so has seen some of the warmest years in the last 132 years.

The deniers of this forum love to talk about ice ages. What's happening in our time is of no interest to them.

The Scientific American of yesterday is based on this NASA report:

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.ph...

with these references:

NASA (2013, January 15) NASA Finds 2012 Sustained Long-Term Climate Warming Trend. Accessed January 15, 2013.
NASA Earth Observatory (n.d.) World of Change: Global Temperatures. Accessed January 15, 2013.
NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (n.d.) GISS Surface Temperature Analysis. Accessed January 15, 2013.
NOAA National Climatic Data Center (2013, January 15) State of the Climate: 2012. Accessed January 15, 2013.

“The U.S. temperatures in the summer of 2012 are an example of a new trend of outlying seasonal extremes that are warmer than the hottest seasonal temperatures of the mid-20th century,” NASA GISS director James E. Hansen said.“The climate dice are now loaded. Some seasons still will be cooler than the long-term average, but the perceptive person should notice that the frequency of unusually warm extremes is increasing. It is the extremes that have the most impact on people and other life on the planet.”

More scientific science fiction. Will you ever show your own published work?

nice to see that a major scientific & engineering institution can still publish data without being proscribed by government censorship.

It was however distictly toutch & go during the 3 years folloeing the withdrawal of funding caused by the George HW Bush & Richard Cheney premiership.

Note: I have been forced to delete the name of George W.Bush from the list of genuine USA presidents as his father refused to give him command of anything @ all following the run down of Bush oil under his Jusisdiction.

The proof of George HW Bush's control was due to the response of his son during the 911 terror attacks and the inaction of FEMA to hurricane Katrina due to a downed telegraph pole shutting down communications between the Bush Ranch & the whitehouse for about a week (lots of deaths).

Had George W.Bush actually been in charge, Texas & much of S. USA would have seceeded during year 1 & 2 of the Post Bush presidency, if not before. Certainly the gunfight between the yankees & confederates would have been fought in civvies with modern assault weapons right now as I type...

Nice to see that USA institutions are still up & running even if crippled.

The line plot above shows yearly temperature anomalies from 1880 to 2011 as recorded by NASA GISS, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center, the Japanese Meteorological Agency, and the Met Office Hadley Centre in the United Kingdom. All four institutions tally temperature data from stations around the world and make independent judgments about whether the year was warm or cool compared to other years.

Yes independent judgments: So do the scientific science fiction people get together and vote on the temp. change? I'm sure they will give us their opinion or prediction to the forecast soon.

Nice to hear from you, even if rarely.

Do keep us posted. No stampts needed, you know. <oh the rates just went up a bit just this week.>

No need to hear from you. That scientific science fiction you post has run its course.

Climate modes alter the long term vegetation patterns of the planet.

To do this they by and large must operate for over a century to allow the vegetation to respond.

The only time that climate mode change is faster is during the switchover time from one mode to another.

The obvious Jason model is climate mode#2, which has been in operation from when the gulf stream switched ON about 30,000 years ago to the present day when it's inefficient cooling has warmed the earth up enough to allow climate mode#3 to operate.

Sad news is that the Jason model popped up as an explanation right @ the end of its operating system time.

Climate mode#3 has been pre-historically around for far longer periods of time. It was the dominant mode from at least the end of the Triassic to the end of the Eocene part of the Tertiary period.
The reason why it is not common during the Pleistocene is because the Pan American land bridge prevents the ocean from equalising the temperatures, and results eventually in a permanent El Nino hot pool. This strictly limits the time that climate mode#3 can operate as it will cause the shutdown of the Gulf stream while the Pan American land bridge remains.

I have noticed that you are a fierce critic.
How about giving an example of how you believe the climate to operate? Do you believe in the Dinos being millions of years old?

No billions. The explanation would be by an opinion, prediction, and forecast and could be. So do they really know? You have a greater day.
