I'm not sure I'd want to be on a list that has Midland at the top of it.

And for those of us that own businesses in Las Cruces and enjoy all this area has to offer, I give my congratulations. I refuse to listen to all the negativity as the above two posts like to write. I've chosen this area as my home. My children enjoy living here. I work hard to provide jobs and opportunities in my company and I support other businesses that want to come into Las Cruces and join us. There are solid organizations in Las Cruces that support the business climate here. As a result, local businesses can support our local charities and help out that those that are struggling. Way to go, Las Cruces!

From Las Cruces, New Mexico, where the Judaic teachings of Jesus have been replaced by the local governments with the idolization of the Trinity crosses.

Once again the city has provided a peak into the traditions of the city government and shown who and what tax money can buy. It's like a church declaring a miracle when times are grim since the Milken Institute is in the 'miracle' business to provide standings for cities that pay their fee. The city pays the fee and Milken Institute brags about the wonderment of Las Cruces until next time a payment is due. Or the cowboys come to town.

Every customer is different depending on the service provided, so just try to find out how much the city pays.

As a native of Las Cruces, with family roots going back to the 1930's, I've lived in other citys and yet, I've come back to Las Cruces to stay.

In spite of what has been happening on a national level, Las Cruces has fared EXTREMELY WELL.

Oh... and Mr. Weinbaum,

if you don't like Las Cruces, I encourage you to go back where you came from. Although you seem to have the type of personality that would be unhappy anywhere.

While PW has lessened the ultimate message of his argument by peppering it with his Tourette tic about religon, even long term native who have traveled far and wide must admit when you don't have far to fall down the economic ladder, the statistical 'performance' is not much in comparison to others.

Of course LC is behind Midland on many lists, but if Midland is the epitome of what is being evaluated do we need to waste our ink on printing such 'no news'?

Does Las Cruces have room for improvement? Of course it does!

However, even though the average wage is low, so is the cost of living. Additionally our unemployment rate is around 7%, while the national average is over 10%. Cities that enjoy excessive prosperity are also exposed to a deeper fall when the bubble bursts. Look at Vegas, L.A, Phoenix, Miami etc.

Except for high-end homes, the Las Cruces real estate values seem to have held up pretty well.

We are fortunate to have a diverse employment base. Communities that depend on large corporate entities for their employment are exposed to catastrophe in a collapse. Look what happened in Silicon Valley when the internet boom collapsed. Look at Detroit right now.

The bottom line is we have a lot to be grateful for. Addtionally, I sincerely believe that when true recovery starts to happen, Las Cruces is going to come out on top, because we didn't fall that far....

As for Mr. Weinbaum's comments, the city has NOT adopted religion.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and images represent different things to different people. Do you know that the NMSU Annual used to be called the Swastika? The arms on the symbol rotated in the opposite direction from the one associated with the Nazis, but they dropped it for the sake of political correctness. The Swastika symbol was used by the American Indians, and was also found in African Tribes.

Crosses have been used to mark graves for centuries without neccessarily having a Christian association. The three crosses in the Las Cruces logo don't neccessarily have a religious meaning. Do they represent the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, or do they REALLY represent some settlers who got on the wrong side of a native's gun? While I consider myself to be spiritual, I am not a devoutely religious person. That said, I consider the latter to be the case.

The City of Las Cruces has never imposed or endorsed a religious representation of our logo.

I take offense to my tax dollars being squandered on such a frivoulous issue. If Mr. Weinbaum had won his case, what would be next? Would San Francisco, St. Louis, San Antonio etc.. have to change their names. You get the picture.....

As goes the new construction residential housing market so goes Las Cruces, the economic boom of the past decade was fueled PRINCIPALLY by it,and small business success or failure follows closely behind it,without the temporary stability afforded by recession resistant public sector/defense industry jobs this City would be reeling!

Some just start lying because they just don't want to believe what goes on in their city. They hate it when their status quo prejudice is exposed.

Mr. Weinbaum, you don't even live in the city limits so I don't understand why your cross issue is so important. There is NO connection between the cross logo and religion.

You seem to be quite the political activist.

Perhaps your time could be better spent policing our politicians who are squandering tax dollars we don't have.

Hey, Paul, I just heard on the news that the crucifix will be banned from Rome. Rome, Italy, for god's sake, home of the Vatican!

Does that make you happy?

Wow! I thought you were joking until I looked it up. I'm sure that makes Mr. Weinbaum very happy.

I will say though that a crucifix is clearly a religious symbol, where a cross is NOT. Crosses were used before the days of Christ to mark graves.

I wonder if Davin Chavez, the MVEDA czar with the alcohol problem, has been punished yet by that lame board of directors? Remember how he was drunk and T-boned a girl's car with his BMW while out of state?'ve tried to sweep it under the carpet in that lavish office Dona Ana County and Las Cruces taxpayers are funding. Of course with a salary of $100K plus we are paying the drunk, I wouldn't get too giddy about being No. 9 on anyone's list.

I am not amazed at the comments by Mayor Kenny Miyagishima-roll. I am quite sure he was surprised about Las Cruces' ranking. Considering he had to look up from one of those large mirrors he has everywhere, it probably was an annoyance to have to talk about the city's less than impressive ranking. What is amazing is how such an intellectual lightweight can be elected mayor...but considering Bill Mattice's efforts, I guess the bar was lowered significantly.
Maybe Miyagishima-roll asked his wifey, you remember, the former judge who can never hold a judicial elective office again because of influence peddling and family favoritisms, what she thought...and she was surprised...so of course he was...they do everything together...just ask them.

I won't repeat the rest of your post. Let's just say that you embarrass yourself with the kind of language you've posted here. You can't even make an argument with the least bit of civility. Do you know that how you express yourself is a direct reflection of who you are and how you were brought up?

It's a pity you don't have anything of substance to write.

Have a good day.
