"Pulsars like this are why you do these surveys" - David Champion, CSIRO

An obese oddball of a star has left astronomers wondering how it could have formed.

Found with the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico, the star is a pulsar - a compact, rapidly spinning star - called J1903+0327. It lies 20,000 light-years away spinning at a rate of 465 revolutions per second - the fifth fastest-spinning pulsar known in our Galaxy.

Plain weird does not work for me anymore. Properties like a highly eccentric orbit, heavier than normal with a mass of about 1.74 times that of the Sun, and spinning at a rate of 465 revolutions per second deserve some new words like hugomongous and rutevanant for the fifth fastest-spinning pulsar known in our Galaxy.

I don't know about you.

Pulsars are highly magnetized rotating neutron stars which emit a beam of detectable electromagnetic radiation in the form of radio waves. Their observed periods range from 1.5 ms to 8.5 s.[1] The radiation can only be observed when the beam of emission is pointing towards the Earth. This is called the lighthouse effect and gives rise to the pulsed nature that gives pulsars their name. Because neutron stars are very dense objects, the rotation period and thus the interval between observed pulses are very regular. For some pulsars, the regularity of pulsation is as precise as an atomic clock.[2] Pulsars are known to have planets orbiting them, as in the case of PSR B1257+12. Werner Becker of the Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik said in 2006, "The theory of how pulsars emit their radiation is still in its infancy, even after nearly forty years of work."[3]

It sounds like maybe it was struck by a passing body of matter, which was assimilated and that would have caused the spin-up.

Its hard to believe all of this info can be obtained from a telescope, especially the rpms of an object 20,000 light years from earth and we cant find bin laden on earth go figure.

What do you mean 'WE'? Are you really looking or just commenting? There are five turtles in my backyard. I just went looking and found only one, and 'HE' looks just like two others.(The other two are shes.)

It a real crying "" SHAME "" !!!!.

That scientist, and all of the sciences group themselves together, with the likes of Governments and Militaries.

If it had not been for bogus , fraudulences, panic, terror, fights [ etc.]:
to perpetuate: WARFARE, KILLING, MURDER and the LIKE.

All you : fine Fellows and Gals, probably, could be OUT in DEEP SPACE as I am typing[keying], and get some really close up EXPERIMENT AND SAMPLES.

You as the remainder, of us poor earthlings have made there own, beds{and] they GET to die in them{beds}.

Well, if bin Laden were emitting electromagnetic pulses of incredible magnitude and regularity, he would be easy to find too.

I like Dr. Champion's attitude, just looking for weird stuff. You sure don't have to look far - just go to downtown Ferndale.

Maybe God is starting to create another planet before, ridding the one we're on. I won't be here to see it happen and neither will anyone else.
