I went to proxy.org and tried to post anonymously on Topix, but the 4-digit code image you need to type in order to post here never shows up when I try to post. This happened no matter what proxy site I selected from proxy.org .
.
See my post above.

If your city of origin changes every few hours, and you can change your name as often as you want (even post to post)------- Isn't that enough anonymity ?

Topix still will have your ISP.

If you want something more nefarious, such as what you see on TV with the bad guy's ISP's bouncing from country to country, well,--------- give the NSA a call.

I'm pretty sure that they'll send you a copy of their program.

Your ISP location is changing every few hours.

It's the Ramona, Ca location that you want to get rid of. And that was almost certainly supplied by you during registration for the green thingy.

Hello I appreciate you pointing out that the Ramona location can be changed. I do change this if I wish. The only reason my ISP keeps changing now is because I am on my Lap Top. When I am on my home computer my ISP is Poway. It never changes. I would like to change it or have it not show. My preference is that it not show.

Thank you.

Now why, do you think, some of these people would want to mask or eliminate their ISP address? Are they in fear of meeting Chris Hansen, holding the incriminating evidence, in the kitchen?

Well,.... pretty much the same reason that you use "BigBob", instead of your REAL name !!

TOPIX shows the location of your ISP automatically. It will be the ISP connection that is in use by whichever computer you are using. You can't have them not show it, but you can use a "hide isp" program to have another one show up.

The real problem is that you people "join the community".

Now, a comunity is a collection of friends.

Why would anyone want to be anonymous among their friends?

I simply didn't join the community, and my ISP jumps all over the place, without my having to do anything.

Hmmmm, well, let me sign out and try it, but as far as I can remember, it still uses my ISP no matter if I am signed in or not.

Okay, so here I am after having signed out. Now, about your question. I joined the TOPIX community so I could be a registered user and discuss items of interest from my home page - keep track of my favorite threads - and so forth. Just because I am discussing something with people doesn't mean they are all my friends. So, I am just a private person and don't really like to have my ISP location out there for anyone. Anyway, let's see if my ISP location still shows up when I am signed off.

See, even though I am signed off, it still picks up the ISP from my computer - it has nothing to do with being registered or not.

I think yours jumps around for another reason. Maybe it has to do with your ISP service, or maybe your computer has some kind of anonymity in it somewhere of which you are not aware - such as in the firewall settings or something.

It appears that for a price(what's new?) certain web sites will be glad to "fix" this problem. And if their software can "fix" it, then there must be another way to fix it without this software. So far I have not found that way. But I will bet there is a way.

Actually, your ISP is showing but your location isn't.
