Sorry in advance if you are kidding, but with TOPIX, one never knows.

DNA is comprised of two strands of polymers of nucleic acids that are connected together.

These nucleic acids have three components, a sugar, a nitrogenous base and a phosphate.

The nitrogenous bases in each strand are paired.

The letters, A, T, C, G represent the nitrogenous bases and the nitrogenous base pairs specifically A with T, C with G (connected with hydrogen bonds).

G = Guanine A = Adenine T = Thymine C = Cytosine

My point is that since the completion of the various genome projects we now have irrefutable evidence of evolution, the transitional fossils are located right in our DNA. No longer can the nay sayers state,“Show me the transitional fossils”. Physical fossils are important but are no longer needed as proof of evolution. The “missing links” are being found in our DNA. The finding of the fusion of chromosome 2a and 2b in the chimpanzee into chromosome #2 in homosapiens is just one irrefutable example.

The only explanation: Evolution

Please demonstrate that you understand what evolutionary biology is, then we will discuss.

DAMMIT! You were right. No good Math jokes.
A doctor, a lawyer and a mathematician are having lunch. They get into a discussion of whether it is better to have a wife or a mistress.

The doctor feels it is better to have a wife because there is a commitment in the relation, thus less stress, which is more healthy.

The lawyer feels a mistress is better, because there are no legal entanglements.

They turn to the mathematician for the final say. After some thoughts, he says..."Both. That way, your wife will think you are with your mistress, your mistress will think you are with your wife, and then you can get some real math done."

That was one of the better math jokes I've ever heard. But I feel compelled to point out (lest anyone mistake the joke for legal advice) that mistresses may very well engender legal entanglements, depending on the laws of the particular jurisdiction and the facts of the case.

Ok, it's really old and not a math joke ... but it still makes me chuckle:

Two hydrogens are walking down the street.

The first one says, "Hey! I think I lost an electron!"

The second one replies, "Are you sure?"

The first one answers, "Yeah, I'm POSITIVE."

I gave you what I believe is the only "immunization" we could attempt, as individuals or as a society against UNreason. I think that by the time we are in the classroom, boardroom, or courtroom or Topix debating science with the superstitious it is far, far too late. Kids have to learn how to run their brains starting as early as they enter the school system. Even if they are culturally or genetically religious, they will be better able to manage their lives. Admittedly, some much more than others. The overall trend would be positive, I am certain. Go ahead...call it a "belief"! heeheehee.
This is actually one of the most fundamental challenges facing society in many problem areas. Whether it is pre-natal malnutrition or substance abuse creating a child with two-strikes against it from birth, or emotional/psychological/ cognitive deprivation in early childhood, or religious indoctrination/free thought restriction, damage done to children at a very young age is extremely difficult to overcome. It is a true public "health" crisis.

Snoring is always a sign of an unstable upper airway. Sometimes it is just benign snoring, sometimes it is an indication of sleep apnea. If she snores, then pauses, then snorts, it's usually sleep apnea. If she is excessively tired during day (falls asleep watching TV, reading, etc., and has comorbid conditions like heart disease, esophageal reflux, diabetes, hypertension, etc., it's usually a slam dunk diagnosis.
Even benign snoring will cause disruptions in her sleep as well as yours.
Unfortunately, our data shows that primary care docs rarely ask patients sleep specific questions. It is usually up to patients to push their primary care doc for a sleep evaluation. Sorry I can't give specific advise.
Actually, we've been told that her snoring is fairly common for 3rd trimester pregnancies combined with greater-than-average weight gain.

So - I wonder if I can go without sleep for 2 1/2 months? ;-)

You see, Tinka, for them, this post serves as a type of social gathering place in which to achieve an inexpensive "mental buzz".
Remember the phrase, "Don't let a friend drive drunk."?....Well, don't let a friend drive after having spent more than 60 seconds on this post.
Because, he's still "full of himself".
Yeah well, he needs to release himself under someone else's watch..LOL

Touché poor soul, but reading is one of life’s pleasures and knowledge IS power.
Some of us are very passionate about the need to keep ID/Creationism out of the classroom and to teach people exactly WHY evolutionary biology is so important.
Those that insist that Creationism or Intelligent Design is science and should be taught in schools or given “equal time’ with teaching biological evolution to our high school honors and AP bio students impede the development of budding scientists. Scientists that may one day save their very lives.
We are now using evolutionary biology to test cancerous cells and decide if chemo is warranted. IF it is even warranted, the genetic assay of the cell is studied to decide on chemosensitivity or resistance. This is the direct result of the field of evolutionary biology.
Cancer occurs when your cells lose the molecular mechanisms that control their growth and their death, known as apoptosis, resulting in uncontrolled cell growth. Genes encoded in the DNA of the cell control these mechanisms and the acquired mutations in these genes lead to this loss of control. Cancer is a genetic disease. But, and this is a huge but, each individual’s cancer is different. Your prostate cancer will not be the same as your neighbor’s. Your cancers will be as different as you are, different mutations, different influences.
Because of this difference, known in my world as heterogeneity, chemotherapy is not, despite what your local oncologist might say, a one type fits all treatment. Because of this variability between patients and the mutations involved, a cancerous cell is able to further mutate resistance to the chemo agents involved, and further courses of the same chemo will not control tumor growth and the patient dies.
BUT BECAUSE OF EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY, we have been able to develop cell culture assays of individual patient cells that have contributed to the molecular understanding of chemosensitivity and resistance. We can identify gene expression patterns that correlate with clinical drug resistance. If you live in Timbuktu and see Joe Oncologist and he gives you the same chemo regime that he gives to every other one of his colon, or prostate, or breast cancer patients, there is a good chance that your particular cancerous cells will evolve resistance.
BECAUSE OF EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY scientists have the knowledge to expose cells to drugs and develop a cell culture drug resistance assay (MTT) to determine sensitivity and resistance.
No matter what your religious beliefs, you and all other Creationists/ID’ers need to understand that if you employ the benefits of evolutionary biology while pursuing the best course of cancer treatment for you or a loved one, you have increased your chances of surviving. IF and only if you make sure that your cell culture assays are done to allow
for the identification of the gene expression patterns that correlate with drug resistance in your particular type of cancer.
EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE IF YOU LET IT.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

No to both. Regarding the DLMO assay and the Pineal gland MRI, do they have value beyond the diagnostic?
Aside from various sleep-inducing drugs, I've tried light therapy and also adjusting my sleep times through incremental changes (both backwards and forwards) and by skipping a night's sleep to promote tiredness.
The only thing that has ever really worked (other the the first few days in a time zone far to the west) is direct manipulation of my serotonin release and re-uptake times. Unfortunately, the only reliable method by which I was able to do that involved a certain simple compound that I use to produce myself at home. The reason I no longer do that is because within the last decade the compound in question was made illegal, as the result of a media-manufactured (but largely untrue) association with another substance more correctly known as the date rape drug. Both the FDA and its Canadian equivalent bowed to public pressure and criminalized possession of the compound, despite the fact that for decades it has been available by prescription in Europe, where it is considered safe enough to be used by women DURING childbirth! That's probably a sufficient number of clues, so I'll climb down off my soapbox now!:-)
NOTE - THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE SPECIFIC MEDICAL ADVICE -

From your research you're undoubtedly aware of melatonin and it's properties. The assay would be to see if you are secreting it, and when. The MRI would look for any physiological problems with the pineal gland. I'll assume you're not blind, or I'd mention the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus.

There are some good circadian guys at McGill University, have you seen them?

I'm new here but it looks like you work in cancer/genetics. As you may have noticed, I'm in sleep research. Have you seen some of the papers linking sleep and cancer? Specifically the shift work information. The WHO is putting shift work on its list of carcinogens.

You didn't tell me she was preggers. Congrats.

There is a HUGE lack of data on pregnancy and sleep. Many women while in the later stages of pregnancy will snore and have some mild apnea. And of course after the baby comes the severe sleep debt.

The only thing I can tell you is that if it was men that got pregnant, we would have solved this problem decades ago.

By the way the kids always remembered Avogadro's number!

For cripes sake...if you are satisfied that no harmful long-term consequences may accrue from self-medicating, medicate yourself, man! I am an insomniac's insomniac just like my dad. Not only is it miserable it's so dangerous...in the short term and long.
You could also try televised cricket matches or Mary Worth cartoon books...do they make those?
