China to enforce universal cell phone charger

Finally some common sense. This has irked me for many years. Even manufacturers themselves make small changes from model to model to insure we get soaked for buying new chargers every time we upgrade phones. I hope the "wet noodles" in Washington take note and follow suit.

This is a good idea, but it should not have to be a government law. The problem is that the people are not doing anything. We the people should be telling them that this is what we want, and if we don't get it we as a people will put all of you companies in a hat and who we draw from the hat we will no longer purchase from. That gives them two years as things stand now to correct this or one of you will be out of business, and then we will take the next.

My question is: it says it's based on USB. Is it mini-USB ... or yet ANOTHER NEW standard?

Maybe there should be a standard for each battery type. As new battery technologies arrive new more advanced standards could be used. Also you would not accidently put a lithium charger on a cadmium battery phone.

That sounds ok as long as my phone can be charged on one and I don't need to buy a new phone to go along with the new charger!!!!!!

ive got a big big box full of chargers and have no idea where they came from or what the hell they go too, this seems like a good idea....now watch some one mess it up.

They should impose a rule that a chargers must be labeled to what appliance they are to be used for. All chargers labeled for exactly what they are to be used on.
