The Navy and NASA are testing out how they'll recover astronauts once they splash down in the ocean following future missions to deep space, something a Navy crew hasn't had to do in nearly 40 years.

I love the opening sentence to this article.

"Michael Jackson's ex-wife acknowledged Thursday that she was concerned that some of his frequent medical visits were motivated more by a desire for drugs than by the treatments he received."

Of course, she gave contradicting information, by saying he genuinely wanted treatment for vitiligo. Fact remains, he was an adult, fully responsible for his own actions.

^ I know right? "Depigmented". Come on, just say Michael wanted his skin lighter so he used a skin lightening/bleaching cream. That's not that hard to say smh if he was serious about treatment for his vitiligo, he wouldn't have gone to that extreme smh

Agreed. If he was serious about vitiligo, he would have publicly announced he had vitiligo in order to bring attention to it. This, in turn, would have brought funding for research. Instead, when he was questioned by Oprah about his skin turning porcelain, he blurted out the name vitiligo.

You are a real tool Len...It was not MJ's responsibility to talk bout his vitiligo to help the world. He was embarrassed about it...what a dumb thing to say....:(

Embarrassed about it? His skin became evenly lighter, over the years, and Oprah finally asked him about it. When he said he had vitiligo, I thought his was the strangest case I had ever seen. Even the autopsy didn't come out and say he had it, with conviction; the word "consistent" was used, which is very noncommittal. I respect news anchor Lee Thomas, who is public about his battle with vitiligo. His is the case of vitiligo I have seen on people, in which the skin has pink patches where the pigment has disappeared.

It said consistent with vitiligo. In describing other conditions about his organs, the report was very blunt. Namely, it said his prostate was enlarged, which is a condition middle-aged men are susceptible to.

If he hadn't dyed his skin white and carved up his face to remove his african features, people would have been more sensitive about it. They certainly would have respected him the way they respect Lee Thomas. Now, THAT man has courage and honesty.

he not only had vitiglio - he had lupus, too. that infectet the skin around his nose and forced him to have surgery again. He did not do that on purpose to get rid of his african features. He was proud of his being a black man.Why are people so ignorant and make every thing so negative. Excuse my english, itīs not my language.

I like this quote.

"I wanted him to be a father," she said. "I wanted him to have everything he didn't have growing up. I wanted him to experience it with his own child, with his own children."

So when did the the freak tell Debbie during their marriage that he would be using somebody else's sperm and a turkey baster?

Jermaine, because some of the bleaching creams were extremely toxic to the point at which can destroy pigmentation, I am sitting on the fence. I don't know if he actually inherited the disease or if it was chemically induced.

Insofar as his african features were concerned, he was stunningly handsome when he still had them. Yes, it was his right to carve up his face if he wanted to. But to lie about it is another story.

At least Lee Thomas came out on his own about having vitiligo and uses black makeup instead of bleaching his skin white. I respect him.

Right. I would've respected MJ if he had actually talked about it when the vitiligo was happening but he took too long to talk about it and it didn't seem like he lost it as gradual as one would think. It's harder because Michael himself doesn't know when it happened. He claimed "after Off the Wall" but he said it as if he wasn't too sure. I even heard him say it happened after Thriller so I don't know if he was really that clueless about it or did he really get vitiligo from chemical induction. I remember the Lee Thomas story.

That's the part that has me sitting on the fence. Between Off the Wall and Bad, people noticed he was not only surgically removing his african features, but they commented on his whitening skin, which happened at such an even pace. THAT would have been the time to say he had vitiligo. This is why I'm so skeptical.

I also noticed LaToya's skin began turning lighter, at the same time.
