Genesis 6.4 I agree that like all large creatures, these Nephilim or "Grigori" (i've never heard such called so before) did not much survive the three big flood periods at the end of the ice age, beginning ca. 17,500 years ago with glacial waves, then the more traditional outburst floods associated with the draining of Lake Agassiz 13,000 and finally 8,000 years ago. All I can say, LookByawnDobvyu, is be skeptical about juxtaposing canonical texts as far apart (and written for different purposes) as Hebrews and predeluvian Genesis. I ask y'all seriously: Is it is more reasonable to suppose that advanced ancient humanids of our own planet had developed a technological civilization prior to, or perhaps long before, abrupt climate change took hold at the end of the last ice age? Or, to suppose that distant lifeforms evolved almost exclusively for space travel could discover, let alone choose to reach and land on, our beautiful but again soon-to-suffer planet. I'd have to go with #1. It is quite reasonable that if the giant apeman we call Sasquatch lives and breeds in seclusion today, then one or more remnants of such ancient civilization(s) would have survived to adapt to the new, wetter conditions after the great glacial outburst flood 8,450+-25 years ago (ref. Lake Agassiz and Noah). It seems likely that if these ancient survivors still breed that they would maintain their most stable, survivable technologies, such as a durable space, atmospheric and submarine travel vehicle that seems to puzzle us so greatly today. It seems likely that such remnants would want little or nothing to do with "us" during most of "our history." We are after all the rabble who escaped the last great flood by grit in wooden pitch-covered boxes or by hiding up in the Himilayas. We had to reinvent civilization from scratch and were SO backward for SO long (some may insist nothing has yet changed). It seems nearly certain that a political tiff could be brewing between such remnants as would want to intervene, now that the earth environment suitable for humanid lifeforms is shrinking so drastically and rapidly due to human irresposibility, and those remnants who want to maintain the hands-off strategy. So now into the realm of complete and utter speculation: Given "their" presumed history of disengagement, perhaps these ancients are still internally or even politically hampered from making full and organized appearances before "our" current global civilization. What if only scoflaw renegades (adolescents?) were occasionally breaking the code of silence to perform (mostly) harmless buzzes on our farmhouses, and once in a while to have sex with our farmer's daughters or toy with/torture a human as we sometimes treat our fellow creatures? What if more adult personalities among the "ancients" were advocating interventions that might be least intrusive yet help to save the cool earth that "we" and "they" are adapted for? Sorry to poo-pooh the wonderfully imaginative body of work that attributes UFOs to other-worldly, alien creatures; I suspect that this inclination is directly related to the "god-shaped vaccuum" selectively bred into human hearts that keeps us generally looking upward and outward. I expect the truthful answers are much closer to home, though no less awesome. It would be nice to know of a past great civilization that faced climatic change (albeit we assume the easier, natural variety) and survived to maintain their culture(s) at least in small numbers.

I have to agree with the POV that, I'm a free thinking person, and I don't 'need' the Vatican's approval of what I'm allowed to believe in. Will they still approve if the aliens aren't Catholic? Oh, and I also liked Estrella's post... Aliens are OK, as long as there's no birth control involved. We wouldn't want THAT...

If the Pope told all of you Catholics that you must cleanse your souls in sub-freezing water weekly, would you? I think not.....then you should consider the Catholic Church as hypocracy and I suggest you seek another religion.

Weak as they may be, even the electronic signals of civilization are only about 50 light years out from earth today. Aliens noticing? Unlikely.
